Is there a good example I can see for reference? They say to do shoulders, normal focus with open eyes and closed lips, does this mean they want it 'mugshot' style? (no smile) or can we smile? Please excuse me if this sounds stupid, I just want to ensure I submit my application correctly.

Against a white (or light) color background in the last 30 days, do not smile.  Someone will point out the specifics/exact rules..it's somewhere around here.

The photo is really only to confirm your identity since your CCL will have the same photos as your driver's license.

so just stand in front of a white wall and take a selfie that looks like you with a format that is similar to every other id picture you have ever seen. No hat and no sunglasses!!!

I smiled. Same as on my DL.

I figure they ought to see me in my natural state.

Every app I've assisted students with has been filed with a cell phone photo cropped to the right size.  I've done dozens and have yet to hear of one being rejected.  Light colored background, no hats, eyes open, mouth closed.  A couple of them actually smiled.....no issues.

Don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I am kind to everyone, but when someone is unkind to me, weak is not what you are going to remember about me.

'Pastafarian' who wore strainer on head ordered to get new license picture

A Chicago-area woman says she wants to fight for her right to wear a pasta strainer on her head in her driver's license photo, claiming the item is an expression of her religious beliefs.

Rachel Hoover, 21, says she belongs to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and has actively practiced the religion for five years. Members call themselves Pastafarians.

And what about non-resident applications? I submitted a cellphone selfie, but I'm still "under review" (less than 30 days yet).
