LawDogRD10 Posted April 11, 2020 at 10:56 PM Share Posted April 11, 2020 at 10:56 PM Can anybody tell me if firearms training courses are considered essential or non-essential? I've heard variations but haven't seen anything with any actual authority. I went through the executive order and searched online and haven't seen anything other than saying that gun shops are considered essential and did find where some instructors are hosting classes with a max of 10 students. I had a class scheduled for the end of May at a state facility but there's no way it's going to be happening now.

Mr. Fife Posted April 11, 2020 at 11:18 PM Share Posted April 11, 2020 at 11:18 PM ISP should make online training a valid option until this all blows over.
joker Posted April 14, 2020 at 12:16 PM Share Posted April 14, 2020 at 12:16 PM I have a friend that was taking a CCL class March 21 and 22 of course that was cancelledThe person is telling me they are doing it thru zoom now?I don't understand how they can do thatI took 8 hr NRA pistol class which counted for 8 hours, my wife and myself were not gun people so we wanted more training, and then did the 8 hour CCL classSo I am not familiar with the 16 hour CCL class, if they cover actual hands on gun handlingIn The NRA pistol class we got to shoot 16 different pistols, cleaning and handling of pistols, seems pretty hard to do online

Not sure that ISP would allow video meeting for the classroom portion. The NRA Pistol class cleaning and handling is much more extensive than most instructors will give in a regular ccl class. I would tell whomever it is that any such classes, would not qualify and people taking said class, will need to repeat any training they took this way. Mr. Fife Posted April 14, 2020 at 02:48 PM Share Posted April 14, 2020 at 02:48 PM They need to allow this thru emergency rules, as long as they are making other things go online, like going to church.

Quiet Observer Posted April 15, 2020 at 03:18 PM Share Posted April 15, 2020 at 03:18 PM I think that it would depend on the arrangements that the instructor could set up. I attended a recertification class last fall. Instruction was done in a Butler-type building on a farm, and they had an outdoor range on the property. There probably would have to be some modification to allow for social distancing. Another instructor might not have that flexibility in regard to structure and location. McHenry area. Can outdoor gun ranges open to the public? Outdoor gun/shooting ranges can open to the public, with restrictions. These businesses must employ the minimum number of staff necessary to maintain operations, including the range master. Congregating areas and the clubhouse must remain closed. Businesses must place social distancing by signage or other means to mark distances between users. Customers must be spaced at a minimum every other station or booth to comply with social distancing. The maximum number of customers permitted in the shooting area is half the total number of shooting booths/stations that are located at the range. I don't have one near me. The one I went to this past weekend was packed and with students and regulars, I would say they were not properly enforcing the social distancing. Not going to name names.
