Closing in on his "Führer” himself? Aka Madigan

ISP and not Feds actually serving a warrant at Madigans ???? Hmmm....He must have p***** JB off .
First thing that comes to mind is the DOJ action provides cover for ISP. "Oh, wait, WHAT? Goodness! Who is this Madigan guy and what is he up to?" That or ISP just needed an "in" (something public enough and outrages both sides of the aisle) and this is their foot in the door...and Kelly/ISP brass are actually running the agency and actually enforcing the law. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the rooms where these decisions are made

I've actually been told by an ISP investigator that they plan(ned) on investigating him after he retires. I don't know why it matters if he's in office but just relaying what a "source" has told me. If that's the case then round of applause, great strategy, wait until the criminal is finished committing crimes. Don't stop more crimes against the People of the State of Illinois.

I may be too suspicious of Illinois politicians and their devious ways, BUT this is the first time it’s been the ISP and not the feds doing the raid. Could it be possible that this is a way for the Illinois Democrats to control the “investigation “ and preempt the feds from doing an honest investigation?

Am I too cynical? Maybe.

ISP isn't looking into what the feds are looking into. Not parallel cases. Well, the predicate for opening AN investigation. ISP also can't do a thing to stop the feds from what is federal jurisdiction.

https://www.chicagobusiness.com/greg-hinz-politics/questions-swirl-over-madigan-banning-ex-state-rep-capitol-without-guard

So if McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks was so dangerous he had to effectively be banned from the Capitol, why weren’t other officials and Franks’ constituents told?

That’s the most prominent but by no means the only question in the wake of the remarkable news over the weekend that Franks, who was a Democratic state representative before getting the McHenry job, is the subject of a probe of sexual harassment and stalking being conducted by Illinois State Police.

Franks didn’t return my calls but told the Sun-Times he had done nothing improper.

According to a statement released by House Speaker Michael Madigan, his office received a complaint in November 2018 involving an office staffer and Franks. The speaker immediately informed Franks he could not visit the Capitol complex in Springfield and began an investigation........

By February—a year ago—the office “determined the allegations were credible,” the statement continued. So Madigan’s office asked the state police to prevent Franks from entering the Capitol complex without an escort. The next month, the speaker personally called the Sangamon County state’s attorney’s office to inform it of the probe, as well as the legislative inspector general.

None of that was known or disclosed to the public, until state police late last week delivered a search warrant to Madigan’s office seeking all records regarding “allegations of wrongdoing or misconduct” by Franks.

I find myself fantasizing that the Feds are trying to make an example of IL politicians and hope that maybe they are also probing into the ISP and their FOID program.

If funds are being swept and diverted to unknown locations, what's to say they are not diverted to accounts that can pay off cronies/lobbying firms which are then reinvested into campaign donations.

That's some tin-foil hat wearing stuff I know, but it is exactly how much I trust Madigan and his henchmen/women.

How Democrat voters can be proud every 2 Novembers is beyond my scope of comprehension in this state.

I doubt it, although due to his illegal removing toilet scheme MAYBE he is to avoid an IRS hit. Who knows

Democratic Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is reportedly under investigation by federal authorities for a dubious tax filing prior to taking office.

Pritzker, a multibillionaire who owns part of the Hyatt hotel chain, was criticized during the 2018 campaign for a scheme in which he removed all the toilets in a mansion in order to claim it was "uninhabitable" and avoid hefty property taxes. The Cook County Inspector General characterized the tax appeal filing as a "scheme to defraud," and real estate experts warned that Pritzker's actions were potentially criminal.

JB doesn't seem like a stand-up guy. The tax pressure is just a little squeeze to let the fat boy know he's got skin in the game. Those tax charges would be state/local, not federal. That squeeze is coming from his buddies in Crook County.

https://www.illinoispolicy.org/records-involving-madigan-sought-by-federal-probe-into-southwest-chicago-suburb/

Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan and members of his inner circle are named in a federal subpoena served on a small village southwest of Chicago.

An IRS agent on Feb. 14 delivered the subpoena that gives Merrionette Park, a southwest Chicago suburb, until March 4 to deliver records to a federal grand jury, according to a copy obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times. The subpoena seeks “correspondence with, or other communications (such as internal email messages) documenting communications with, Michael Madigan, Michael McClain, Timothy Mapes, Kevin Quinn and/or Marty Quinn.”

McClain is a former state lawmaker, former Commonwealth Edison lobbyist and long-time Madigan confidant who was accused of setting up $30,000 in payments through ComEd lobbyists to Kevin Quinn after he was ousted as a Madigan political operative. Quinn was accused of sexual harassment by campaign worker Alaina Hampton, who recently settled with Madigan’s campaign for $275,000.

Quinn is the brother of Chicago Ald. Marty Quinn, who represents the 13th Ward where Madigan lives.

Mapes was Madigan’s chief of staff until he was ousted by Madigan in 2018 over complaints that he bullied state employees and made inappropriate comments in the workplace.

A long-serving Madigan campaign worker is also a main subject of the subpoena. Raymond Nice since 2006 worked for Madigan and since 2015 worked as a contractor for Merrionette Park, according to the Sun-Times. Contracts, checks, payment records and other documents explaining Nice’s work for the village were sought by the subpoena. Nice declined comment.

Village attorney Burt Odelson said the village was still gathering records. He said it did not appear anyone with the village did anything wrong.

McClain was interviewed by WBEZ and said federal agents tried to get him to help them investigate ComEd and its political dealings. Part of the investigation is into whether Madigan pressured ComEd to hire lobbyists but require little or no work from them, the Sun-Times reported.

The newspaper did not reach a Madigan spokesman.

Nice was a business development consultant for the village, former Mayor Dennis Magee said. Magee said he hired Nice because they were golfing buddies, but that Nice did the work he was paid to do.

Nice formerly worked for the Cook County recorder of deeds, then worked as a ComEd lobbyist for Jay Doherty, also a ComEd lobbyist and City Club of Chicago leader. WBEZ reported Nice ended his ComEd work after federal agents raided City Club offices.

In the past year, federal investigators raided offices and homes across the Chicago suburbs, with red-light traffic camera vendor SafeSpeed LLC the common denominator in many. Agents appear to be trying to establish whether pay-offs were made in exchange for installing the cameras. Merrionette Park has no red-light cameras.

The cameras are responsible for taking $1 billion from drivers in Illinois between 2008 and 2018, according to an Illinois Policy Institute investigation. Studies show they fail to improve traffic safety and increase some types of collisions, serving mainly as municipal cash grabs.

State lawmakers are considering bills to restrict or ban the cameras. Five corruption indictments have resulted from schemes to place the cameras.

While the federal probes progress, Illinois lawmakers should work to block further opportunities for corruption in Illinois. Pending bills include:

  • House Bill 4558, which would empower the state’s weak legislative watchdog office and prevent lawmakers from burying official reports on their colleagues’ misconduct.
  • Senate Bill 2314, which would slow the revolving door from state lawmaker to lobbyist, establishing a two-year “cooling off” period.
  • House Bill 4042, which would bar state lawmakers from lobbying other units of government.
  • House Bill 4041, which would end Springfield’s honor system for disclosing conflicts of interest, instead establishing clear rules for when state lawmakers must recuse themselves from voting on a bill that would benefit them personally.

Many of these corruption reforms were proposed in 2009 after Rod Blagojevich was impeached as governor for trying to sell President Barack Obama’s vacant U.S. Senate seat. Blagojevich’s sentence was commuted by President Donald Trump and ended Feb. 18, meaning the reforms from his misdeeds have been held captive longer than he was.

It’s past time for Illinois to release these anti-corruption reforms.

https://www.illinoispolicy.org/chinatown-developer-who-recorded-madigan-solis-charged-with-fraud/

CHINATOWN DEVELOPER WHO RECORDED MADIGAN, SOLIS CHARGED WITH FRAUD

An FBI informant who secretly recorded Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and former Chicago Ald. Danny Solis, which then allowed federal prosecutors to charge Ald. Ed Burke, has been charged with wire fraud.

See Y. Wong was charged March 11. Depending on whether his arraignment is delayed along with other federal hearings by the COVID-19 outbreak, he is expected to plead guilty when arraigned March 24.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Wong lied to buyers and Cathay Bank at the Canal Crossing development in Chicago’s Chinatown. The bank gave $13.7 million to Emerald Homes, which was owned by Wong. His scheme cost the bank $1.8 million and buyers of condominiums in the development $1 million.

Wong’s scheme took place in 2010, but it did not become public until charges were filed March 11. He in 2014 was making recordings for federal investigators in the hope that one day a judge would go easy on him when his crimes were eventually discovered.

The Sun-Times first identified Wong as an informant in January 2019. The news organization reported he had secretly recorded Solis and Madigan in 2014 after the former alderman got him a visit with Madigan at the law office of Madigan and Getzendanner about a development project. The recording revealed Solis would take official action in his position as alderman to privately benefit Madigan, according to a 120-page federal affidavit. Madigan has denied wrongdoing.

Wong’s recordings cornered Solis and allowed federal investigators to convince him to record Burke, which eventually lead to Burke’s arrest.

Burke pleaded not guilty last June to 14 corruption charges. Counts include extortion and using his city connections and powers to steer business to his law firm.

Ya don’t say....

So Madigan was on the tape as well?

I thought Madigan was like a political vampire: you can see him and hear him, but you can't record is image or voice.

If that were the case, we wouldn't know just how much he looks like the original "Lurch" in the 60's TV series "The Addams Family". (Lurch was played by the late Ted Cassidy. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0144252/?ref_=nmbio_bio_nm )

Could we finally be rid of Madigan? How many will be following him out if so?

More at each link......

Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is implicated in a federal bribery case against Commonwealth Edison, alleging the utility won Madigan’s favor to back legislation by directing $1.3 million in contracts and payments to his associates and letting him name people for jobs, from meter reader on up.

Madigan’s office July 17 received a grand jury subpoena for documents related to the ongoing federal investigation, according to WGN. According to Mark Maxwell of WCIA-TV, Capitol Police at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield saw men in suits enter the building Friday morning. One flashed an FBI badge.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker called on Madigan to resign if the allegations are true. Madigan said they aren’t true, and he is cooperating.

The deferred prosecution agreement with ComEd was released Friday and outlined years of bribery involving “Public Official A,” who was later referred to as Illinois’ House speaker. ComEd agreed to a $200 million fine and to admit seeking Madigan’s help with legislation worth more than $150 million to the company. Criminal charges will be dropped against the utility if it satisfies the agreement. Madigan himself is not charged with bribery.

Six hours after news broke that Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan was implicated in federal bribery charges against Commonwealth Edison, one Democratic state senator called for his resignation.

State Sen. Melinda Bush, D-Grayslake, called for Madigan to resign based on his actions as a state lawmaker, even though charges have not been filed against him. Bush said Madigan’s involvement with ComEd’s bribery scheme is enough for him to resign from office.

“I would encourage the Speaker to take his own advice and resign not only his Speakership and his legislative seat, but step down as chairman of the Democratic Party of Illinois, effective immediately,” Bush said in a statement.

Bush cited Madigan’s own words from last fall when former state Rep. Luis Arroyo was charged with bribery. At that time, Madigan “urged” Arroyo to resign immediately.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker also expressed deep concern about Madigan’s implication in the scheme and said he has a lot to answer for.

“If these allegations of wrongdoing by the Speaker are true, there is no question that he will have betrayed the public trust and he must resign therefore,” Pritzker said.

They're shocked, shocked to hear rumors of corruption from Madigan's office!
