AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted February 17, 2020 at 08:55 PM Share Posted February 17, 2020 at 08:55 PM Correct me if I am wrong. 3016 takes the state sales tax which is around 6%, and reduces that down to 1% for guns safes, thus is a 5% reduction in purchase price for gun safes? That's how I am reading this. Correct?

mauserme Posted February 17, 2020 at 09:11 PM Author Share Posted February 17, 2020 at 09:11 PM There's been some confusion on HB3016.If you look at the Full Text, and remove the parts that don't apply, the law would read (if passed):Sec. 3-10. Rate of tax. Unless otherwise provided in thisSection, the tax imposed by this Act is at the rate of 6.25% ofeither the selling price or the fair market value, if any, ofthe tangible personal property....With respect to gun safes and locks designed to securefirearms, beginning on January 1, 2020, the tax is imposed atthe rate of 1%.In other words, the rate "otherwise provided in this Section" would become 1% instead of 6.25%, a reduction of 5.25 percentage points. JTHunter Posted February 18, 2020 at 12:55 AM Share Posted February 18, 2020 at 12:55 AM Got both done early this afternoon. My DSL (and phone) have been down since Sunday morning. The tech had to switch wires as there are multiple breaks between the junction box and here (it's an old neighborhood).
