Plinkermostly Posted May 1, 2020 at 06:09 PM Share Posted May 1, 2020 at 06:09 PM CNN: https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/01/world/canada-assault-style-weapons-ban-trnd/index.html "You don't need an AR-15 to bring down a deer," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at a news conference in Ottawa. "So, effective immediately, it is no longer permitted to buy, sell, transport, import or use military-grade assault weapons in this country." "The ban is effective immediately but disposal of the weapons will be subject to a two-year amnesty period. Trudeau said some form of compensation would also be put in place but the firearms can also be exported and sold after a proper export license is obtained." chicagoresident Posted May 1, 2020 at 07:03 PM Share Posted May 1, 2020 at 07:03 PM Military grade means selective fire, not semi-auto only. What a jackass. This is the country that classifies 80% as machine guns, because they could be completed as a machine gun as easily as a semi auto. That’s the logical level you’re dealing on. InterestedBystander Posted May 1, 2020 at 08:06 PM Share Posted May 1, 2020 at 08:06 PM I'm guess this answers what weapon was used the other week.I dont think it does. Mini 14 was used decades ago. Theyve been trying to pass this for some time. From yesterdays post https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/feds-to-soon-ban-ar-15-several-other-firearms-used-in-mass-shootings-sources-1.4918623 ...Sources said further gun reform legislation will come, but it remains to be seen whether there is the political appetite or even ability to advance major gun policy at a time when the reduced parliamentary sittings are supposed to be focused on COVID-19 response measures. Expected in future legislation is a buyback program for all military-style assault rifles purchased legally in Canada, tougher safe-storage laws, and strengthened penalties for smuggling guns into Canada. In the last Parliament the Liberals made changes to the rules related to firearm ownership, including broadening background checks for gun owners, toughening rules around the transportation of handguns, and increasing record-keeping requirements for the sale of firearms. It also repealed changes made by the previous Conservative government and the federal Tories have vowed to reverse these changes...

Nanook Posted May 1, 2020 at 08:44 PM Share Posted May 1, 2020 at 08:44 PM Canada until this law imported Chinese M14 copies long after the first Bush banned imports here. EdDinIL Posted May 4, 2020 at 02:09 AM Share Posted May 4, 2020 at 02:09 AM From that CTN News link: "Under current law, adding firearms to the list of banned weapons in Canada can be done through an order-in-council and does not require new legislation." RandyP Posted May 4, 2020 at 10:04 AM Share Posted May 4, 2020 at 10:04 AM There is a certain ironic luncacy in crafting a new Canadian law on their books in response to a tragic shooting which involved a gunman who broke existing Canadian laws to obtain his firearms. Thankfully our Northern cousins have now made such illegal actions more illegaler.
TRJ Posted May 4, 2020 at 04:57 PM Share Posted May 4, 2020 at 04:57 PM For all the guns they name specifically they left out a few that were actually used in multiple military entanglements over a span of decades. I won't name them and make it easy, and ask that you refrain as well, but they have left a few gaps that Canadians will flock to so they can keep a proven repeating firearm available for self defense. Problem reaction solution. Legislation had been in the works for months. The same happened after Dunkirk and Porth Arthur and Christchurch. Watch the Christchurch video which has been censored. This shooting is very bizarre. At first he was reported by the police chief on Twitter to have been arrested and later in the day was reported dead. He was also a millionaire but couldn't afford firearm licenses and all his firearms except one came from the US? They will say US to blame too and more gun control needed. Also burned 9 people to death and shot wounded animals but no motive has been released. I've seen videos by people who investigate these shootings and many things don't add up and he looks very calm. I wouldn't trust any government when it comes to gun rights, especially governments captured by international bankers who want total control. Link to comment
