"on or about" question?

"Concealed firearm" means a loaded or unloaded handgun

carried on or about a person completely or mostly concealed

from view of the public or on or about a person within a

vehicle.

1) Sitting in my truck with a seatbelt buckled doesn’t make for very comfortable carry. Does “on or about” mean I can keep a handgun wedged between the seat and console or in a map pocket as long as it is not openly visible?

2) My truck’s bed is unsecure. If I leave the vehicle and store in the console or glove box does the handgun need to be unloaded?

Thanks, kind of new to all this…

1) It does count as "about" your person. If you read carefully, it does not have to be concealed if it's within a vehicle. It's still a good idea to keep it mostly out of sight though.

2) No, there are no storage laws for vehicles.

One of the reasons I really like to carry OWB is that it is fully comfortable while seated, including in my car with the seat belt buckled. I wear the holster at about the 3 or 4 o'clock position and despite having a rather well padded abdomen, the gun never seems to bother me at all. I would have a tough time drawing the gun while driving, but I don't think it is at all likely that I might ever need to do so. Occasionally I have un-holstered my gun when I got into my car and placed it on the passenger seat with something covering it from view, then re-holstered it when I arrived at my destination. Pocket carry works as well for a very small gun (like my Ruger LCP). IWB for me is not at all comfortable when seated, since the butt of the gun inevitably pokes into my stomach while seated, and even if I un-holster the gun I would have to be standing to re-holster it.

OP maybe you should try a different holster that does feel more comfortable. Mine carries fine seated in the car. I know I have it on but it isn't uncomfortable. You might also consider that if you don't keep it on, you will have to unholster and reholster in the car which I always want to avoid.

1) In your vehicle and under your control would cover "about."

2) In glove compartment does not need to be unloaded, but if you are in a statutory prohibited parking lot, either the glove compartment or the vehicle needs to be locked.

I wish someone would make a kydex inside of kydex holster. You're gun goes into a kydex shell and that slides into a kydex holster and snaps into place. Then when in the car, you press the snap (maybe on the front of the holser on top of the slide) and your gun AND shell slide out, then put in the box. When reholstering, the holster on your person stays wide open because its kydex and allows you to drop in the gun and IT'S shell - with a tigger guard of course.

Just a thought...

Maybe suburbia has gotten to me but, does anyone still leave their car unlocked when unattended?

Have you looked at Remora Holsters? Pull the whole rig, put it back and gun has never left the hoslter. Just say'n

Yes..I own one.

Yet the idea is still intriguing..

Imagine a hybrid kydex (ala crossbreed) with a small release button to unholster a secondary shell that covers only the trigger.

Yet..when replaced is done much easier because of the inherent existing shell already in the waistband. This would be opposed to the sliding, dancing and repositioning done with a Remora...

Hey! Folks eschew different holsters for other small reasons... ;)

I'm assuming you aren't one of the "bigger kids on the block." :) :) :) The problem is not getting it out, its getting it back in, while seated, between an already too tight belt and my fat keester. The holster flattens out below the mouth, making it a real struggle to reholster. I see MagSlap understands the concept. Maybe with a double stack pistol, even two more thicknesses of kydex might be a lot, but for those who carry single stack, two more thicknesses wouldn't be much.

MagSlap, that's exactly what I was thinking. Seems like a no brainer. Now, how do we go about making money on it? :)
