I Have little kids and avoiding parks/playgrounds is nearly impossible for me. Is anyone aware of a statute that would prohibit someone from possessing an unloaded, encased firearm in a park? Im nowhere near Cook County and dont have any local ordinances to comply with.

I wasnt around during the fanny pack days and figured that someone probably explored this back then.

IANAL. Hopefully someone will be along with a definitive response.

Not sure about just FOID transport. Was there not a prohibition about having a firearm within so many feet of a school...or perhaps that got changed?

There is an ISP transporting brochure but it does not answer the question

https://isp.illinois.gov/docs/FSB/General%20Information/1-154%20-%20Transporting%20Your%20Firearm.pdf

As long as you are not carrying/possessing under the FCCA CCL in the prohibited area list

...

Sec. 65. Prohibited areas.

(a) A licensee under this Act shall not knowingly carry a firearm on or into:

(12) Any public playground.

(13) Any public park, athletic area, or athletic facility under the control of a municipality or park district, provided nothing in this Section shall prohibit a licensee from carrying a concealed firearm while on a trail or bikeway if only a portion of the trail or bikeway includes a public park.

The federal Gun Free KillSchool Zone Act (plus ILGA's enhancements to it), if the park/playground is part of a school ground, would do it. Otherwise, you should be good legally.IANAL

I’m pretty sure that the federal school zone law has an exception for individuals with a state issued license if the state does a background check to issue it.

Disregard. I read your reply on my phone and my response doesn’t make sense.

The relevant part says not within the 1000ft of a school then under exceptions it reads LEOs, and a couple other like LEO classes etc, or you have a licence by the state in which the school is located.
