I tried to buy a gun at Walmart twice and left empty-handed both times

The availability of guns at Walmart has become a hotly debated issue in the wake of two deadly shootings at its stores that killed 24 people.

...

I went to Walmart with the intention of buying a gun last week as part of an investigation into the placement, selection, marketing, and security of firearms in Walmart's stores, and to learn more about the retailer's processes governing gun sales.

My journey to bring a gun home from Walmart turned out to be far more complicated than I expected.

I hit a roadblock before I even left the house.

Walmart has said that about half of its 4,700 US stores sell guns.

I searched Walmart.com and Google on August 13 to find out which of the 10 Walmart stores near me sold guns, and I failed to come up with any definitive answers.

...

I figured that employees at any one of Walmart's stores near me would know which locations sold guns.

I was wrong.

Over an hour and a half, I placed more than a dozen calls to multiple stores, waited on hold for a combined 40 minutes, and got through to a human only three times. Three Walmart employees told me they didn't know which stores sold guns in the area.

One person referred me to Walmart's main customer-service line. I called that number and spoke with someone who said he also couldn't help me.

...

Someone answered the phone at a Walmart Supercenter in Chesterfield, Virginia.

She transferred me to the sporting-goods department, where a woman on the line confirmed that I could buy a gun there.

The store was 30 minutes away. I got in my car and plugged the address for the Chesterfield Walmart into my phone.

...

After a few minutes, a Walmart manager arrived at the gun-sales counter. She said I could not buy a gun that day because no authorized firearm sellers were scheduled to work.

She said I could come back to buy a gun on Thursday, two days later.

...

On Thursday, I drove another 30 minutes to Chesterfield, confident that I would successfully purchase a firearm that day.

I arrived at the sporting-goods department around noon.

There was no one attending the counter by the firearms. After waiting for about 10 minutes, I walked to another aisle and found someone to help me.

I told her I wanted to buy a gun. She said she was an authorized seller and that she could help me. We walked back to the gun display, where she picked up a phone and called someone.

...

She charged me $2 for a federal background check, then left the counter and returned a few minutes later with a form titled "Department of State Police Virginia Firearms Transaction Record."

She told me to complete the form.

...

But I had only just finished printing my name when she stopped me and asked whether the address on my license matched my home address. I had moved since I obtained my license, and the addresses didn't match.

That was a problem, she said.

...

I left the store empty-handed - again.

At this point, I decided to give up on buying a gun at Walmart.

...

My experience could also help explain Walmart's relatively small share of the US gun-sales market, despite the company's size and reach.

The selection of firearms at the Walmart store I visited was extremely limited compared with other stores nearby that focus solely on selling guns.

"There was no one attending the counter by the firearms."

Yep. Welcome to what everyone deals with. Especially when you're on your way to a competition and need ammo now in order to make it in time for the safety brief. Not like that has happened to me...way more than I'd like to admit.

Back on the point: reporters attempting to buy guns are always amazed at how difficult it really is...they then proceed to insist it be made harder if not impossible.

Another reporter tries to buy a gun.

And fails, again.

Are they mad at Walmart or do they think that a Walmart will skirt the laws?

And just asking, did the Dems send this person out since this is in the National Politics?

I believe this reporter was just investigating whether Walmart was indeed the evil purveyor of death that the current noise makes it out to be.

National Politics is a "forum to discuss national current events ... relating to the right to keep and bear arms." The online petition, etc., qualifies as a current event.

I didnt see a online petition hence my question about the political aspect.

Not meant to be rude/harsh

We all knew there was a reason, just didnt see it!

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/customers-no-longer-feel-as-safe-petition-to-ban-gun-sales-at-walmart-tops-129000-signatures-lands-on-ceos-desk-2019-08-21

That’s 23-year-old Walmart category specialist Thomas Marshall urging CEO Doug McMillon to take stricter measures aimed at curbing gun violence in the wake of recent mass shootings, according to the Washington Post.

Marshall, in a letter accompanying a petition signed by more than 129,000 employees and customers, is calling for Walmart to stop all sales of firearms and ammunition, ban the public from carrying guns into its stores and cease all donations to politicians backed by the National Rifle Association.

Very much like the Sun Times columnist Neal Steinberg trying to buy an AR15 to show how easy it is to buy an evil assault weapon.

He didnt pass the background check because he did not reveal his arrest for beating his wife and spending time in alcoholic rehab.

Antis like to project their own insecurities. I think that inside a lot of Antis is a fear that they are a mass shooter or that they couldn't control themselves, so they project those fears onto everyone else.

Raging Against Self Defense:

A psychiatrist Examines The Anti-Gun Mentality

By Sarah Thompson, M.D.

"You don’t need to have a gun; the police will protect you."

"If people carry guns, there will be murders over parking spaces and neighborhood basketball games."

"I’m a pacifist. Enlightened, spiritually aware people shouldn’t own guns."

"I’d rather be raped than have some redneck militia type try to rescue me."

How often have you heard these statements from misguided advocates of victim disarmament, or even woefully uninformed relatives and neighbors? Why do people cling so tightly to these beliefs, in the face of incontrovertible evidence that they are wrong? Why do they get so furiously angry when gun owners point out that their arguments are factually and logically incorrect? How can you communicate with these people who seem to be out of touch with reality and rational thought? One approach to help you deal with anti-gun people is to understand their psychological processes. Once you understand why these people behave so irrationally, you can communicate more effectively with them.

Never, ever in my life.

And never have I personally seen it written in a article.

Never seen it in a video, or on the news, late night or daytime.

No rape victim has stated that she, or he, was glad that no one tried to rescue them.

That they made a conscious decision to let it happen and would then stand up and walk away!

Never, never, have I heard such bull**** in my life and why it gets thrown out there time after time by ANY group eludes me totally!

Not you Ronin.......

But putting this out there for public consumption is asinine and wrong.......

Anyone remember the tongue depressors and a whistle defense?

I love that they're putting it out there. It proves to the general public how stupid the gun grabbers are. It makes the alternative, our platform, look good.

No actual rape victim says that. However, I have heard anti-firearm people state with absolute conviction at the time that they would prefer to be raped than saved by a man with a firearm.

And then, on several occasions where those people had the horrible experience to subsequently be actually sexually assaulted, I have had them come to me to ask for self-defense training, and every single one of those people have asked me to teach them to shoot and help them be able to carry a firearm for protection.

It's truly unfortunate that such things seem to be required to force a change of viewpoint that makes certain people comprehend reality as it actually is.

The article I posted by Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership merely echos that, and more important it elucidates the phenomenon of projection of violent, uncontrollable impulses that many anti-firearm advocates possess that they also attribute to others, because they can't imagine anything outside their own solipsistic world view.
