KingWalleye Posted June 20, 2019 at 05:49 PM Share Posted June 20, 2019 at 05:49 PM Our esteemed state representative is hosting a post parade party at his house. I would be glad to show up with some IGOT friends. From the DP Journal. As preparations for Des Plaines’ annual July 4th Parade continue, another local Independence Day tradition will continue but at a slightly different location.Every year after the final float has passed the corner of Oakwood and Center streets, State Rep. Marty Moylan (D-55th) hosts a community picnic in a small park across from his home at the corner. This year, however, the park is being developed to include playground equipment and other amenities meaning it’s unavailable for Moylan’s picnic. The picnic will still go despite the park work. It will be held on Moylan’s property across from the park.Plans call for free hot dogs, soda pop and ice cream to be available to everyone who attends. There is no charge. Moylan began the picnic when he was mayor of Des Plaines before being elected state representative.Des Plaines’ 4th of July Parade kicks-off at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 4 at the corner of Center Street and Wicke Avenue. It will proceed north on Center and right on Prairie Avenue to Pearson Street where is will end. Usually between 80 and 90 units ranging from musical bands, antique cars and floats to and Boy and Girl Scouts march in the parade. This year’s grand marshal of the parade is the Des Plaines Park District, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. markthesignguy Posted June 24, 2019 at 10:52 PM Share Posted June 24, 2019 at 10:52 PM Looking at a street view of that corner, it's a disaster in the making. Unless he's SO unpopular that only 10 or less people show up.The whole property is fenced and landscaped to keep the people at arm's length (imho) with a hard boundary from the street.
