Marie Posted April 26, 2015 at 06:57 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 06:57 PM I'm beginning to think about getting a micro 9mm that I can wear in a bra holster (not the Flashbang, but one by the same maker that you wear attached under your armpit). There are times when I just have to wear a dress or outfit that won't accommodate my 9mm Shield on my belt.Suggestions, please. I guess I could get a dinky .380, but since I already stock 9mm ammo, I'd prefer to keep things simple. Thanks! Update 7/18: I rented a Ruger LCP today. Put about 50 rounds through it. Shot it decently. Bought it! The one I rented was the "old style," but On Target had the tweaked one with the red trigger and better sights, which I bought. Got a Hogue grip for it (pink!) as the rental had one and I liked it. Didn't beat my hand up too badly. I get to take her home on Tuesday. It's been named Baby Sis, to go with Big Sis (M&P 9FS) and Little Sis (Shield 9). I've already ordered the bra holster (not the Flashbang which goes in front, but the Marilyn which goes under your bra strap on the side, like a shoulder holster) I wanted, for deep concealment. I had shot Frank's Sig P238 and really wanted to buy it, but I've never carried a 1911-style pistol before and having to switch the safety off would have required a mind set switch. TRJ Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:31 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:31 PM My experience with micro 9 guns is they can be fussy little beasts. Mine is 100% reliable with HST, but anything else and it becomes a real mystery as to whether it's a gun or a rock you're holding. I hate to say get a .380, but with the right ammo they end up being more reliable than a fussy micro nine.
spanishjames Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:40 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:40 PM I believe the new Glock 43 is a bit smaller than your Shield. Then there's the Boberg, which is expensive. Cobra Derringer maybe? I don't think you can get much smaller than what you have now.
spanishjames Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:43 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:43 PM I'd also suggest the 380, though I know you'd gotten out of that caliber. The LCP, TCP, and similar guns, really are tiny, and conceal easily because they're so thin. Much smaller than the Bersa Thunder you had.
Mr. Fife Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:49 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:49 PM I think C0untZer0 mentioned the SCCY is a 10 round 9mm yet smaller in all ways than the Glock 43. But, if I recall, you weren't really able to handle a small gun because of the recoil issues hurting your wrists?
Marie Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:50 PM Author Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:50 PM Hmmm, maybe I do need to think about a .380 then.

But, if I recall, you weren't really able to handle a small gun because of the recoil issues hurting your wrists?I can handle the recoil on my Shield fine. The Ruger LCR .38sp I had beat my hand up something awful. I'd have to rent an LCP, for example, and try it out. I've never shot one. This would only be an occasional carry gun, as I can ordinarily conceal my Shield without a problem. Dresses and other really dressy clothes are an issue. I have a carry purse, but much prefer to carry on body, as I don't have to worry about my pistol.
barryware Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:55 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 07:55 PM LC9s.. Try (rent) one.. If you want, I will loan you my LC9. After you try it for fit, shoot it.. It has been worked on. You will like it.. I can't loan you my s because that is my daily carry.. The LC9 & the s are the exact same gun in regard to size. LC9 = DAO (safe carry gun.. Trigger is not stock, much improved), s = striker fire.. The LC9s PRO is a striker fire with no thumb safety... They are all identical in regard to exterior.. All accessories (holsters, lasers, mags, etc.) fit all. It is pretty much a 9mm micro..
papa Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:01 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:01 PM Marie , I have the Kel tec PF9 ( the one Ruger copied ) and it is pretty snappy. I have carple tunnle and old Arther is showing up more everyday . I can shoot 50 rounds through the gun at one time but I know I have shot it. It starts to hurt after that. I really think , for where you are planning on carrying , a small .380 would be your best bet.
Trevis Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:03 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:03 PM If the SCCY would work size wise, get one. I got one on sale from Rural-trigger-locked-King, and it has been reliable. It's gone bang every time, and the recoil is snappy, but not horrible. They are easy to clean and maintain. They even have them in purple, now! C0untZer0 Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:13 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:13 PM The Rohrbaugh R9 is really the smallest lightest micro-9. The DoubleTap Defense - DoubleTap Derringer is also pretty slim, fairly light. Most of these smaller nines are difficult to shoot follow-up shots quickly. Yes but crimp jump is an issue. Some 9mm cartridges don't hold together well in a pistol like the LCR I've never had crimp jump in my Charter Arms PITBULL though.... I want something smaller. So I may have to check out the dinky .380s. An LCP is much more my budget than a Sig. Holy cow, I couldn't believe the Sig prices. Sheesh. yyyz Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:56 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:56 PM Marie... I have the M&P Bodyguard .380 ... for me it fits and disappears in my pocket. In terms of being dinky, using Precision One XTP, in gelatin and with denim covered gelatin, tests gave it a consistent 13+ inch penetration. If that isn't enough, try the Lehigh XP round which had 19 inches penetration in both tests. Tests are linked below. Leigh XPhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LczfeWK9lHw Precision Onehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F79UUxDvv5o I take mine to the range about every 2 weeks and put through about 60 - 70 rounds - it is fun to shoot and at 21 feet, not to difficult to get 5 out of 6 into a 6 inch diameter.http://yyyz.net/images/DSC00484.JPG
Jen-in-Normal Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:57 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 08:57 PM A SIG P238 is very small but it is a .380 (and you've been down the .380 road before). The P938 is 9mm but I'm not sure how it compares to your Shield. SIGs aren't cheap though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
TRJ Posted April 26, 2015 at 09:03 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 09:03 PM The P938 is going to introduce a 1911 style safety which would present it's own new training issue for Marie if she not accustomed to it. It's a neat little gun, but one you need to train with.

narcoden Posted April 26, 2015 at 09:31 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 09:31 PM When it comes to 380's, I think I played with them all... It came down to two for me, the rest had terrible triggers. Stupid me started with the Sig P238 Lol. Once you feel that trigger on the P238, forget it, almost everything feels like junk. The other, a Kahr CW380 had a pretty good trigger as well and was also one of the smaller options. That's what I picked up and it's been my buddy every day since we could carry. I usually have my Shield with me also, but for those times I need to deep conceal, the CW380 still comes along. Despite what people say about 380, I don't feel under gunned with it. It'll do enough damage if I ever have to play that card.

Very small, and also accurate for such a small gun. The trigger pull it harder & snappier than I would like; but other than that a great gun. ragsbo Posted April 26, 2015 at 10:21 PM Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 10:21 PM The wife likes the LCP in 380. It is small, shoots great and it does not have that much of a kick. I think it would fit your bill. I would not want it as my primary carry all the time but for those times like you are talking about, it would work and definitely be better that nothing.
