Although a Chicago Democrat, Sen Cullerton has typically been a supporter of Pro 2A bills and voted against anti 2A bills.

...State Sen. Thomas Cullerton charged with getting paid by Teamsters while doing little to no work
Cullerton, 49, of Villa Park, faces 41 counts in a federal indictment alleging he illegally got about $188,000 in salary and benefits, and $64,000 in health and pension contributions.

Illinois State Sen. Thomas E. Cullerton has been indicted on charges he allegedly got a salary and benefits from the Teamsters while doing little to no work, federal authorities said Friday.

Cullerton was hired as a supposed union organizer for the Teamsters in March 2013.

From then until February 2016, Cullerton got $188,320 in salary, bonuses, and cellphone and vehicle allowances, as well as $64,068 in health and pension contributions, according to the indictment, while routinely ignoring his job duties.

He even got a bonus every December for three years, the indictment alleges.

Cullerton, 49, of Villa Park and a Democrat who represents northeastern DuPage County, is charged with one count of conspiracy to embezzle from a labor union and an employee benefit plans as well as 39 counts of embezzlement from a labor union. He also faces one count of making false statements in a health care matter.

The indictment comes days after Teamster boss John T. Coli pleaded guilty in federal court to shaking down a Chicago film studio for $325,000 in cash payments. Coli agreed to cooperate with all federal investigations as part of his plea deal with prosecutors.

The feds allege Cullerton conspired with Coli to set up the do-nothing job. When one of Cullertons supervisors complained that Cullerton didnt show up to work, Coli ignored it, the feds allege....

Looks like the well oiled and greased machine is having leaks and things are seizing?

Likely a plant by another man named Cullerton as well as the King himself.

If he did wrong, he did wrong. But if he leaves or gets removed from office before the Senate gets around to a vote on SB1966, I'm pretty sure his replacement appointment will not be 2A friendly.

YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a hunch you may be confused.  While this guy is a Democrat, and his name is Cullerton, he is NOT Senate President John Cullerton, but Senator Tom Cullerton, who has a history of being on the right side of 2A issues.

Just to keep identities straight: this is not John J. Cullerton, President of the Illinois Senate.

Regardless of voting record or party, corruption is wrong.  One is innocent until proven guily.

I have a question....

Cullerton grabbed a 'ghost' job for the pay and remuneration. Typical politician behavior in many Chicago cases, from what I imagine.

But, what did the union get out of the deal? Why in the world would any organization 'give' someone that much $$$$ for.....what? What was the benefit to the union? Long term bennies for some time in the near of far future do not sound like it would be worth it.

I don't give a crap about how someone votes?  We have an overwhelming issue with corruption in the state that is burying us in debt, killing property values, and forcing people to leave in droves.  Saying that's OK because they align with us on one particular issue, is ridiculous.

We need to PURGE every single crooked politician in this state, hiding under every rock, and slithering in every crack.  The sooner we get these crooks out, we can then get some degree of reform, and prevent the likes of Madigan highjacking the entire legislative agenda.

As I was reading the story, the thought came to mind was why was he not fired from the job if he was not doing the work requested or was that something only Coli could do and refused? Ive seen people employed in the private sector with salary and benefits who didnt do the job and they arent being fired nor indicted for anything.

edit: So apparently there are special laws for labor unions... (per capfax) "Its a federal crime to claim you worked for a union on your union time sheets when you didnt perform such work."

Could this be a part of the plan to get the big rats ? The Feds seem to be indicting the little fish to get them to roll on the big fish. We can hope.

Hi,

The real question here is who else might he be enticed to roll over on, in exchange for a deal.

FWIW.

Welcome to a public corruption investigation performed by the US DOJ. That's EXACTLY what they're doing. And after unsealing the indictment, they go to the defendant and say "give us names or we'll ruin your life." That is how US Attorneys operate. They use indictments as leverage then mitigate using plea agreements. The first plea agreement offered to him will be the best and it only goes down hill from there. None of this...the way Illinois prosecutors handle stuff, "you give us nothing and we'll let you walk on this count and that count and blah blah and then you'll only serve 1/3 of your prison sentence."

How many more will have the silver bracelets slapped before it is over? Corruption is corruption but innocence is assumed until the evidence proves guilt. Actually one of the few dum0craps tolerable.....................

I think the feds have had their hands tied for 8 years and were not touching Illinois, that made the Chicago Machine complacent.
Can’t wait to see how many more they get, maybe we see one of the big fish by Christmas! :-)

No they were likely under strict orders to leave Chicago/Illinois alone or allowed to investigate, maybe pick off one or two sacrificial lambs here and there when they royally screw up, but that's it. Would guess the latter because the Solis investigation began when Obama was POTUS. That's the only way this crap could continue unabated for the better part of four decades. Scumbagfulloffecestotalposillinoispolitician.

Who is facing charges.  Not been to trial, not been found guilty of anything.

This man, outside of this stuff going on, has been a friend to gun owners. He a rare north of I-80 democrat in the legislature who votes for us, not against us.

Seems like some easy to verify charges. If he was submitting union timeslips for days and times he was on the Senate floor...how do you fight that.

As such, regardless of whom it is, it always amazes me people would say yeah, thats a good idea, lets do it because nobody will ever know!

As said, he is a very rare Chicago Dem mostly voting 2A. Losing him would be another negative for DuPage County.
