Sam Mc Cann made the ballot along with a Libertarian candidate. JB the Hut is our next Governor.

Maybe. Maybe not.

http://illinoistimes.com/article-20122-top-of-the-ballot-races.html

...According to a recent Capitol Fax/We Ask America poll, Democrat J.B. Pritzker leads Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner by nine points, 36-27, with 26 percent choosing an unnamed third-party candidate and 11 percent undecided. In other words, slightly more people said they preferred third party and/or were undecided than supported the frontrunner, Pritzker....

Am I really dating myself with the referenced image above?

Who even noticed that the state of IL had a Republican party in the first place ? That might be a truth for you down staters, but up here in the border counties all our "Republicans" are just Democrats anyways. Especially when it comes to the Second Amendment. We have been sold out. We have nobody to vote for. Either side screws us.

IMO if you wanna start talking about when "the Republican party lost" in 2018 you're gonna have to go back in time some years ago.

This particular case is not about "how Republican are the people running on the Republican ticket", but rather that despite how much people may feel that Rauner is more liberal than traditional Republicans who will protect at least some of our gun rights. JB wants all of our guns and the votes are (currently) in the House and the Senate to make that happen. Rauner is the veto threat that has protected us for several years. Without him in place, the anti gun laws will flow freely. Now I will grant that the U.S. Supreme Court may back some of what is to come down, but that will take years and lots of money for that to happen. What happens in the interim?

We need Rauner. Mc Cann will divert votes that would otherwise go to Rauner and the race is going to be close. His being on the ballot will cost Rauner the election.

Does anyone here have examples of laws (esp. gun laws) this guy's looking to pass? I know it'll get bad if this guy gets elected but trying to see just how awful.

JB wants to be Santa Claus for the leftist loons so I have no examples of laws but by his comments I think he wants NY or NJ type restrictions on our rights.

That's what I was afraid of...from what I've heard, it seems NJ is de facto no-issue (except for politically connected) and there's medical privacy waivers/disqualifiers for ANY type of mental health treatment?

On his primary election night speech, which I think either the video or transcript was posted, JB came out immediately going after "assault weapons" and "high capacity magazines" for starters.

He also is in support of changing tax laws which I am pretty sure means higher.

From pre election debate:

Pritzker: Far too many communities across this state are all too familiar with gun violence, especially in Chicago. I would adopt a public health approach to addressing the violence. First, we need to make sure that communities across Illinois are growing and thriving economically so that people don't feel like they have to turn to violence. Pritzker wants to work with neighboring states to prevent gun trafficking and pass the Gun Dealer Licensing Bill, requiring criminal background checks for gun dealers and employees, documentation and record keeping of every customer's firearm identification card, and steps to keep gun stores secure and train employees to stop straw purchases. He also says "We must increase access to mental health and social services so that people don't resort to gun violence."

From a Pritzker Group bio:

he currently is Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence.

“Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Safety for All Committee reported Pritzker gave $150,000 in January and another $100,000 in March." This is a quasi official group getting anti gun propositions on the ballot in California.

A big concern to all CCL holders is the first set of renewals are next year after the governor is sworn in. If its JB, that will give them enough time to pass a law through the house and senate and get it to his desk to do something to carry rights. Whether its an increase in permit costs, new restrictions, more training, what ever it may be. He can vary well turn us back into a no carry state in the first month if he is installed. This is gunna be an interesting few months...

McCann turned in 60,000 signatures but doesn't the Raunner camp still get to have them verified? This is the battle I am expecting to be major. Jim.

He's got 60k, i think he only needs 25k

Number of Signatures needed for any Congressional candidate to appear on the 2014 IL election ballot (from the Illinois Board of Elections):

  • Republican Party candidates – 500
  • Democratic Party candidates – 800
  • Libertarians, Greens, other Opposition Party candidates – 15,000
  • Independent candidates – 20,000

*Each quantity is slightly different for each of Illinois’ 18 Congressional Districts. The above are averages of all 18."

Interesting. Some people are more equal than others. Both halves of the one party system have the lowest requirements, and those who dare to challenge them have higher requirements.

Glad to see we have a 14th amendment, and no government regulation of opinions.

I voted for Glenn Poshard instead of Grafty Ryan back in the day, as Poshard was far more pro-2A, but during CCW as an official in the State University system he advocated for college campuses to be designated victim zones.

That said Ryan and his predecessor {R}s gave the same lip service to the 2A as the {D}'s - always ready to "strongly support the proud American tradition of hunting" - just not actually being able to own the type of guns you want, nor have them available when needed.

Not sure if his attitude changed, was "encouraged" by his party or if he'd never supported campus carry at all, but we've seen the state party bully individual legislators into submission in WI and IL, especially on 2A issues.

I'm hoping that Rauner and Harold win; but fear that their opponents will so while I support Rauner / Harold, I'm also desperately counting on a great SCOTUS member being appointed to replace Kennedy and some good 2nd amendment cases being taken up that will end the NJ, NY, CA, IL type restrictions and prevent future ones.

If Trump replaces Kennedy with a strong pro2nd amendment jurist and then would have the opportunity to replace Ginsburg and Breyer (two oldest jurists with both over average natural lifespan), we'd probably be set for quite a while. At that point (and even now), I'd be in strong favor of 24/7 security for SCOTUS members. Some of the liberal left are crazy and violent!

It is important that Rauner and Harold win in Illinois; but it is probably even more important that the Republicans retain / build their majority in the U.S. Senate.
