Here' How Young Black Conservative Women Are Changing the Face of the GOP

Amber Randall January 12, 2018

It's pretty easy to name a couple of black women working in progressive circles and organizations, but its a lot harder to name the ones working within the conservative movement.

...

What's less discussed are the young conservative, black women who are working every day to change and influence the Republican Party.

These women want to bring home a message of empowerment, not only to black women across the country, but also to the black community at large. Women such as Antonia Okafor, the founder of gun rights advocacy organization EmPOWERed, Ayshia Connors, a senior policy adviser to a Pennsylvania congressman and president of the Black Republican Congressional Staff Association, and Candace Owens, the director of Urban Engagement for Turning Point USA, all work tirelessly in advocating for their community and to make black conservative voices heard.

Essentially, I believe in this day and age, for whatever reason, there is a largely ignored, growing group of voices, which is essentially black conservatives. We've been largely dismissed and de-legitimized in the media as something that is not allowed to exist, Owens, who labels herself an independent thinker, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

...

Okafor and Connors are also trying to make big strides within the conservative movement.

I'm spreading the message of female empowerment through gun ownership, one that transcends all races, Okafor said of her focus on her EmPOWERed college tour.

...

Okafor is currently on her EmPOWERed tour, visiting college campuses to talk about female empowerment through gun ownership, a message not only for black women, but women of all races. Her tour includes stops at historically black colleges such as Howard University and Spelman College, where she hopes the face-to-face interaction with students will open their eyes.

...

I'm impressed !

It shouldn't surprise anyone that there's a huge black conservative movement when you don't believe the mainstream media.

It seems like the only time you hear about it in the mainstream media is when the left is blaming black people for their losses in key elections, like they somehow owe them the vote on what they tell them to vote for.

The left also won't admit that they usually lose Florida because a huge Hispanic population votes right.

Agreed, this is a good sign.

If President Trump had any inkling of long term thinking, he would change the policy toward Cubans to be more permissive. The escapees from Castro's regime would make reliable voters for the Republican party. In addition, some red states should give incentives for Cubans to move there.

When I first "came out" as a "black Conservative," I was called names I do not care to repeat by black people and white liberals told me I was confused as they tried to get me to see the error in my ways, citing the rights position on minorities. The right has not done itself any favors either. Way to many white nationalists/supremisists identify as republican. This is predominately the reason the right doesn't get more black support as it is hard for many conservative minded blacks to accept a party who has these types as a segment of the base. Now the vast majority of white conservatives are great people so lets just get that out there. But it is hard for me at times to see as a partner in politics anyone who chooses to wear swatstikas, confederate flags and those who normalize and attribute to ALL blacks negative stereotypes. The right has an opportunity to attract a huge community of successful hard working black Americans who would love nothing more than to vote against the socialist dems.

That's primarily those who escaped Castro's Cuba and their descendants. I really wish President Trump would be a little more careful with his words, and try not to alienate the large population of legal citizens of Hispanic descent in this country. They are a fast-growing block. If the Democrats ensnare them as they largely have the African-American population, it may be the end...

It's great to see the individuals noted in the OP as independently determining which party is best for their interest, but it's still a huge problem that so many people automatically vote "D" b/c they are members of a minority, and don't give it the actual though as to "which candidate is better for our country"...

Don't you just love being on the other side of the fence? All of those supposedly tolerant people become...intolerant. My girlfriend and I were trick or treating with our daughter and a state employee (go figure) had a sign that said Trump voters not welcome. That childish crap is tearing us apart.

You're correct about the right being perverted by white nationalists, but that is not the norm and people don't seem to want to see that. Their views do not represent our side of the political spectrum. I would love for more African-American to wake up and see that the Democratic Party uses them for their votes. That's all they want. And with blacks leaving the party, they need to import more voters through chain migration. Black unemployment is still high so let's help AMERICANS first. We can't worry about third world crap. We have enough problems stateside.

You're not a member of the Democratic or Republican Party. You're "p***** off." You're a Patriot. I loathe both Democrats and Republicans, but mostly Democrats due to their petulant behavior as of late. Politics over country. Politics is religion.

Democrats have been using public assistance, wealth redistribution to enslave African-Americans since LBJ. Nothing has improved. War on poverty has cost $70B or something like that with NOTHING to show for it. To paraphrase Einstein, insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly, expecting a different outcome. The outcome for African-Americans has not changed in 40 years. It will not change because there is no desire to.

Republican, Democrat, if they're crooked then I want them the heck out of government. I don't discriminate, it's not politics, it's basic human decency. We all wish to be treated equal. We all have the right to pursue happiness, yet the government shackles a large contingent of the population, traps them in a vicious cycle.

White nationalists are chameleons constantly changing for whoever let's them in. They are dangerously subversive and use the media's propensity to give them a voice. Whatever the media says they are that's what they become because it gives legitimacy to their movement.

The the original Antifa was a skinhead movement in the late 70s 80s. They were originally anti established government, fairly socialist youth into punk rock, and against racism and fascism.

But because the skinheads were a bunch of disillusioned youth the white supremacists found their way in. When the media lumped the whole movement in with white supremacists they coopted it as their own. It's why one of the bigger white supremacist groups is called the national socialist movement, yet somehow get lumped in with the "alt right".

It's ironic that AntiFa coopted the name of the original skinhead movement (punk, not white supremacist) and has done the exact same thing with those who lean right but are independent in thought. And they embrace fascism now.

That's been the mainstream left's strategy. Rather then appeal to certain sentiments on the right they want to label and classify the most diverse group of voters in the country. And it just keeps narrowing the scope of people that call themselves democrats.

It's why political discussion on this board is interesting, because the mainstream left hates guns, we hate the people that want to take our guns, but politically we all have very different views.

Antifa resembles the Brown Shirts. Just bust into a peaceful assembly and wreak havoc. Politically we do have different views, but we're all the same. We're all Americans. The crap they use to divide us is trivial nonsense. We all want the exact same thing. Success, freedom, etc. The rest? It's piddly crap and the MSM, politicians, and clowns like Sharpton have blown up the issues. They've created problems out of thin air.Main point, focus on what unites us. Not what divides us. The simple fact that we can have a civilized discussion is...yeah. Try it on Facebook or Twitter with those feedback loops. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk

It is the DEMOCRAT Party that continues to attempt, and has been quite successful at, dividing us by race.

The Democrat Party stance: Travel Ban (racist), immigration control (racist), welfare reform (racist), hard on crime (racist), personal responsibility (racist), poop-hole Country (racist), not sending a gazillion $ to Puerto Rico (racist), white bread (racist), you name it (racist) !!!!

I dont think anybody can dispute that the Democrat Party, leadership and as a whole, is anti 2nd Amendment and is Pro abortion.

The swastika and confederate flag thing - it goes BOTH ways (BLM, Black Panthers, Congressional Black Caucus, etc.) !!

If ANYONE cares about their 2nd Amendment Rights, or a child in the womb, I cannot for the life of me, see how the heck they could EVER vote for a Democrat!!!

It isn't just Democrats. It's politicians. There's still good apples but most of them are rotten to the core. The amount of time one serves in the legislature is directly correlated to their lack of caring about their employers, the American people.

Most Americans want a legit immigration fix, including an overwhelming majority of LEGAL Hispanic immigrants (the ones who stood in line for years, went through all of that BS, and are now proud Americans). The media completely lies about this or just omits it entirely. Most Americans do not want people coming in through a "diversity lottery." That is not how any other civilized nation (maybe European nations do that, but the most popular baby name in the Netherlands and soon to be in Germany is Mohammed if that tells you anything) deals with immigration. "What can you do for us?" should be the question, not "What can we do for you?" "Oh, but what about the DREAMER children?" whose average age is 28 and 25% are functionally illiterate, another 46% only possess basic English skills, only 900 of them have enlisted in the military, and only 49% have a high school education. Illiterate, uneducated adults are now children. Majority came here as teenagers, not children. DACA eligibility was/is determined by how old an illegal was when he/she crossed the border, not how old they are now, and it must be self-reported (fraud, anyone?) because well how do we know when an illegal crossed the border? We didn't catch em so we can't know. See how the MSM completely distorts the truth? Clowns like Flake would have you believe these are first graders who are on track to go to Harvard. No, they're late-20s janitors who can barely read.

We cannot forget the historical context of the Panthers or the CBC. reactions to an action (jim crow/black codes/ aka Racism). Today, those groups are not needed and spark more division. The hate groups on the right should be a thing of the past but they persist.

What you dont seem to understand is that it is impossible to discriminate against a white male Christian.

They are the last people that it is OK to bash without being a racist.

The confederate flag is not racist, per say, but if you know your history we shouldn't stand for what it represents.

It was the last time a small number of Democrats were unfairly over represented in government by buying people as chattel and voting for themselves. I'm sure the civil war wouldn't of been about slavery if the 3/5th compromise didn't exist. But it did, so it was. When any attempt was made to balance this power the Southern Democrats defied the federal government, revolted, and via impressment forced their poor people into war as a belligerent state.

It's kinda the same thing Democrats do now to keep their power via welfare, defying federal laws, and ruling their urban heckholes with an iron fist so nobody can get out.

If that's what you stand for go ahead and fly that flag. If those are the ideals you believe in I'm sure the modern Democratic party would welcome you into their arms. But you'd have to hide your love for that flag because it's part of their ruse.
