Tomorrow evening at 6:30 the Kendall County Building and Zoning Committee will again be discussing a ordinance to regulate gun ranges, including the proposal by anti-range anti-gun activists who don't want any ranges in our county.
there maybe another meeting next week to stop any shooting within 3000' of another dwelling.
Meeting will take place at the County Board Room 210
111 W Fox St, Yorkville, IL 60560.
We hope to see you there.

I neglected to update, apologies.

It appears there has been several months of discussion on this topic between the county and two residents. The two residents were a retirement age male and female unrelated, who both complained about noise and in one case property damage.

The male appeared problem-solution oriented, and the female appeared to be agenda driven.

The proposal included a 3000' distance ban on new outdoor ranges, which extends the current 1000' ban on outdoor ranges. The 3000' distance would exclude over 95% of available real estate. When this was shown the male walked back the idea pretty quickly, very different from the reactions related to the 500' and 1000' indoor range restrictions we saw in other meetings in the past.

One component of the discussion involved sound/decimal levels as an alternative to a fixed distance restriction.

The meeting resulted in the proposed ordinance being sent back down to a lower level committee for review and adjustment. The county board did not appear on balance to be anti (again different from what we've seen in other jurisdictions), but we must be watchful.

Similar to what we've seen elsewhere, the proposed restrictions were explained to the board with lots of smooth, flowery, nice sounding language that would seem benign to someone who didn't know better. The result would have been a total ban on new outdoor ranges.

Purple/pink is current 1000' restriction; yellow is proposed 3000' restriction; white is allowed area with 3000' restriction.

Thank you to Todd and David Lombardo for representing us.
