FOID renewal times

Recommended Posts

Will the expired card be an issue for range time or ammo purchase? CCL was renewed in April and is active.

If you renewed prior to it's expiration the FOID card is still active. Although using it for purchases might be an issue due to them not knowing you applied for the renewal. It's been my experience that most stores don't know or understand the law when it comes to firearms or ammo sales.

I would suggest using your FCCL for making purchases as allowed by law until your FOID is mailed to you. Again, some businesses may not accept the FCCL, well just because.

It seems they email a friendly reminder to the FOID holder about 60 days prior to the expiration date. Given the processing times being experienced, it'd be smart of them to remind holders sooner.

Hahahahaha, I crack myself up.

:hyper:

If ya think that is funny

The % of those who get a friendly letter is less than 1

It’s hit or miss with the state and they mostly miss

Same with the CCL’s

I did receive a renewal letter and I submitted at the end of August (expire in Nov). As of this afternoon it still shows "Under Review". (The inspect element shows "Submitted")

This FOID was just issued to me in April of this year (they automatically Renewed it with my FCCL renewal...in order to match my FOID/FCCL).

My concern would be the same as others have mentioned "would the FFL honor the FOID status"?

Some still seem pretty insistent on a FOID for purchase.

I am at 45 days on my FOID...still under review. I tried to buy ammo at Bass Pro...I know, normally I use my dealer because I had a gift card...and they declined my purchase even after showing my CCL, a printed copy of my payment, my DoD ID, and FD credentials that state we lawfully are authorized to carry on duty!!!! So, I just walked into my normal dealer and they sold ammo without issues.

It shouldn't take 45 damn days for a renewal! I should be able to walk in to any ISP HQ and they should be able to do it like a DL renewal. The IL Inspector General should be looking at where the $$ is going, because it isn't going to hire new staff for the ISP!

Hi guys

More than having the paper work for the FOID, if the FOID is the renewal issue.

You need to have the statute where in it states that you no longer need to carry both the FOID and CCL either when carrying a firearm or not. And if you have the CCL on you it is sufficient for ammo, firearm and anything else the FOID would be needed for!

So if showing your CCL isn’t enough for the clerks and managers, I’d be sure to let them know that you won’t be back until they start following the laws.....

Plus you were correct, better to purchase from the LGS than give the big box boys anything anymore!

  • 2 weeks later...

Applied first day eligible 8/31/19. FOID expires Friday 11/1/19. Still under review. CCL is valid. Worried though, I am traveling to Florida on Friday, ironically for a pistol competition (Flying) with firearm. What is this "QC" that was mentioned in earlier posts?

Basically... you use 'inspect element' to uncover additional info about internet text on your computer. When on your ISP portal, right click on the text that shows your status. Select 'inspect element' and a pane opens up. It will show code or more detailed info about whatever you have selected. If you 'inspect element' multiple times over time, you can see if you have progressed if you are still showing the same status.

It gives you a hopeful look at your status.

There is more info throughout <This Thread>. It's worth a skim from the beginning.

73 days from date submitted on 8/24/19 for an 11/1/2019 expiration.

Still shows "Under Review" with "QC_Qualified" in the code.

Update: Finally went "Active" on 11/4/19 but no card in the mail yet.

73 days for Illinois, but Utah can issue a renewal in about two weeks for what, $10 or $15?

I emailed our anti-2A Rep twice last week to point out the millions in fees are obviously not being used for manpower. Where did the money go?

11/12 Update: I did receive the new card on Day 75. Our anti-2A rep never replied to messages.

I applied for an address change September 25th and still under review. Is that like a renewal? I've never actually used my foid card for anything, but now I got a German shorthaired and want to get a nice 20ga to go hunt over her. Is the address change still the 60 days?

Or longer, yes

Figured. Literally moved one house over and changed 3 out of 5 numbers on my address. Same road. Wait 3 months. Lovely.

Update: Renewed online end of Aug (this FOID was sent to me in April)... inspect element went QC_verified last week.

Agree with the others. Considering we pay some of the highest fees in the nation to exercise a RIGHT... the ISP needs to improve their turn around times.

I shouldn't have worry about "explaining" to a gun store or a LEO that my rights are intact (as long as I've done my part). My hope is that the whole FOID will eventually be thrown out.

No change since submitting on 8/29 for a renewal. I have a CCL and fingerprints on file... Who should I contact? Cant reach anyone at ISP though the phone. Should I ask my IL State Senator or House Rep? I thought the law was 60 days???

I believe they have 60 business days.

Renewal applications shall be approved or denied within 60 business days, provided the applicant submitted his or her renewal application prior to the expiration of his or her Firearm Owner's Identification Card.

You are close to 60 business days but not there yet. Also, there have been at least three Holidays since you renewed so dont forget to subtract those when calculating how long youve been waiting.
