Leather vs kydex

95% of my holsters are leather also but I only use the kydex ones now. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

For me, leather was like sticking a squeaky stack of floor mats down my pants. I have a few $100 leather holsters and none of them give me the comfort, ajustability and ease of use and maintenance that kydex does... Just make sure it's is blocked correctly or it will wear your finish pretty badly. e.g. The ejection port should not molded as a source of retention.

I have an IWB (english bridal leather?) I believe, purchased from holsterpro.com. They are handmade by the owner I think. Have to wait about 4 weeks. Had it 5yrs and no complaints. It does collapse ever so slightly IWB after drawing, but I dont find it to be a problem. I also have one from him for cargo pocket carry, simple and the square pc of leather attached to the holster blocks the gun from printing.

Just like it says on Kramer leathers site, these holsters will most likely outlast the user.

IWB leather holsters made inside out. The finished side of the leather on the inside. The gun draws fast and smooth. Its also easy on the handguns finish. The rough unfinished outside of the holster sticks to your pants and does not move around. The holster is so stable, only one belt loop is needed. Always use leather belt loops which are sewn or have lift the dot snaps. The mouth of the holster is reinforced with a steel band sewn between the leather, this makes reholstering easy. You can bend the steel to adjust the level of retention you are comfortable with. This works for me.

I like the way the holster is easy on the weapons finish. Spare me that crap about a gun is a tool. If you like using sand paper kydex and you think the worn out finish look means your gun looks cool or like you are an experienced operator then have at it. I have been a Mechanic for 40 years in several different fields and all of my tools look almost new. I take care of them and like my weapons, they look good.

Any custom maker can make you this or you can buy a Andrews "Macdaniel" from Sam Andrews in Florida

I generally prefer all kydex because they won't absorb sweat, and you don't have to worry about dealing with a holster that deforms due to your sweat and body heat. They can deform in uncontrollable ways where it deforms and part of the leather comes to a point where it can accidentally interfere with the trigger during reholstering.

If I do go with some form of leather, it's usually a hybrid kydex holster where the leather is a backer to rest against your skin, but what actually holds the gun is kydex. Crossbreed is one example. Lately for me it's just been 100% kydex.

It seems to me,my kydex also completely covers the trigger guard, while even after firmly holstering my gun in leather, the trigger itself might not be exposed, but you notice a small gap above the trigger, and a bit of trigger guard is visible.normally not a big deal, but I'm conscious that I'm not getting positive retention, and did I holster it firmly enough to cover the trigger 100%.yea,I know, keep your finger off the trigger, problem solved.what say you?

Lately it's been all kydex for me... second choice being full molded leather. With a hybrid, there are times when the retention provided by your belt just isn't available. How embarrassing would it be to have your loaded gun slide into the next stall...
