TRJ Posted September 22, 2018 at 03:59 PM Share Posted September 22, 2018 at 03:59 PM Anybody use a TLR7 light? How do you like it? What kind of gun is it mounted to? Do your fingers reach the switches?
jamiphar Posted September 22, 2018 at 05:35 PM Share Posted September 22, 2018 at 05:35 PM I have one on my CZ P-10 C. My finger doesn't reach it well without adjusting my grip, but my support hand thumb can operate it just fine. I bought mine after seeing John Lovell's review on it: https://youtu.be/i8bjXGCskqk Sent from my LG-H931 using Tapatalk
Glock23 Posted September 22, 2018 at 05:40 PM Share Posted September 22, 2018 at 05:40 PM I have the TLR6 on my XD subcompact, which is my nightstand gun. As above, I either adjust my grip or use my support hand thumb to operate it.

2smartby1/2 Posted September 22, 2018 at 09:38 PM Share Posted September 22, 2018 at 09:38 PM Is this for a handgun? For those using lights on handguns, if you are not using your off-hand, do you practice firing with an adjusted grip or while using your off-hand? I don't have any lights mounted on hand-guns, but I do have a couple of TLR-HL's mounted on AR's. That TLR-7 had really good reviews when I looked. TRJ Posted September 22, 2018 at 10:36 PM Author Share Posted September 22, 2018 at 10:36 PM It is for a handgun. I previously had an Olight PL1. It was a nice but inexpensive light, but I couldn't reach the controls so after a test fit, it went back in the box and was sold at a bit of a loss here. The gun I have set up with a light already is a braced pistol type gun. It doesn't sit out on the nightstand though, and carry in anything other than a duffel is silly to consider. I'm thinking I'd like to try to get a light for a concealable pistol again so I have a lighted option when going out at night, and a better option for the nightstand. I'm really only interested in the compact models, but each has a caveat. PL Mini... stupid QD clip sticks out, makes finding a quality holster maker more challenging, and the high power only last 1 minute before dropping down to 70 lumens. APLC looks about right for my needs, but uses weird batteries and is relatively low output. 200 lumens seems decent indoors, in medium sized rooms up to 20x20. Outdoors might be anemic. Whole point is for positive ID of a threat....if I can't tell a cell phone from a weapon...yeah. TLR7 looks about right for my needs, has the power to work outdoors, but might to too bright indoors with blinding splash-back off white walls. I'm really doubting I can operate it one handed. I wear men's size medium gloves. XC1B still has reports of being unreliable. It's way too expensive to want to fool with that. Viridian has a light only model, expensive for what it is, and ugly, and expensive, and I probably can't reach the buttons one handed, and really, it's expensive Sig has the Foxtrot1, which really looks like a APL to me, for $50 more than an APL. I hear the buttons are stiff. And it's a little too long anyway. WHY must these all be fricking compromise type propositions?
2A4Cook Posted September 22, 2018 at 10:56 PM Share Posted September 22, 2018 at 10:56 PM I had a TLR-2G light/laser combo, mounted on a S&W TRR8 .357 revolver with a 5" barrel. It worked very well, but as stated above, the light was WAY too bright for indoors and, IMO, it would be too large for a CCW. I am currently using a Lasermax Spartan green light/green laser combo which I am very impressed with for indoor use. I have smallish hands and can reach the buttons with either index finger; plus, you can adjust it as necessary. The only caveat is that for really short fingers, the buttons would need to extend into the trigger guard, which is a no-no.

DD123 Posted September 22, 2018 at 11:26 PM Share Posted September 22, 2018 at 11:26 PM I have a TLR-4 that works pretty well. No problems that I can think of. Mine is mounted on an XD 4" 9mm which is the gun I grab when I hear a bump in the night. I find that using the momentary on feature works well with my trigger finger indexed, and flipping it completely on is very easy with that same finger. TRJ Posted September 23, 2018 at 12:10 PM Author Share Posted September 23, 2018 at 12:10 PM After spending the past few days on this whenever I found a spare moment, I'm getting the PL Mini. The switches look to be situated where I can reach them, and I found a few holster makers for it, though I'm holding off on getting a holster until I can evaluate the light. If I hate it there's no sense in having an extra $50+ burned on a holster that'll be hard to sell. I found a coupon code to save 10%, so the PL Mini was $71 shipped. Doesn't seem like too big a risk to try it out.
luckydawg13 Posted September 23, 2018 at 12:31 PM Share Posted September 23, 2018 at 12:31 PM It looks like a nice light let us know how it works for you How long is the run time on it I did not see it in the description from amazon
TRJ Posted September 23, 2018 at 01:47 PM Author Share Posted September 23, 2018 at 01:47 PM Runs just over an hour, but the high power only lasts a few minutes in constant on...then drops down to 70 lumens. It's a compromise. I'm working on the assumption that if using the light as positive threat ID, not a search light, should be sufficient.
InterestedBystander Posted September 23, 2018 at 02:30 PM Share Posted September 23, 2018 at 02:30 PM Looks like a nice light but the apparent non user replaceable internal "contact us when it goes dead" battery would be my biggest concern. Might not be an issue though given its cost and if you get the mentioned 500 charges.

Maybe weekly, and after 5 years replacement with latest greatest thing.
TRJ Posted September 26, 2018 at 08:45 PM Author Share Posted September 26, 2018 at 08:45 PM https://www.mieproductions.com/product-page/light-bearing-owb-holster These guys make holsters for the Olight WML. I can't endorse because I haven't tried, but somebody makes them which removes that complaint. I got the Olight PL Mini today in the mail. It's pretty slick. Weighs next to nothing, clamps on the rail solid. I CAN reach the switches. That's been a problem for me. I still need to range test it, but so far I can't really find a problem with it other than it doesn't say Sure Fire or Streamlight on the side, and my wallet is a little heavier.
