DHan Posted January 24, 2018 at 10:59 PM Share Posted January 24, 2018 at 10:59 PM Our FOID cards expire 8/1/2018. I have heard that the cards are void during the processing times. How long prior to August should we submit our renewal applications to allow for processing? Thank YouDHan

Thank YouDHanLegal act has been posted before. I thought they were still valid at least for a time. IIRC, they are supposed to send you a renewal notice 60 days in advance I thought, although that may not be happening. Maybe they open up the renewal button online then? Edit http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=1657&ChapterID=39 http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=67016 http://www.ilga.gov/....asp?ActID=1657 (430 ILCS 65/13.2) (from Ch. 38, par. 83-13.2) Sec. 13.2. The Department of State Police shall, 60 days prior to the expiration of a Firearm Owner's Identification Card, forward by first class mail to each person whose card is to expire a notification of the expiration of the card and an application which may be used to apply for renewal of the card. (a) Except as provided in subsection (a-5), a violation of paragraph (1) of subsection (a) of Section 2, when the person's Firearm Owner's Identification Card is expired but the person is not otherwise disqualified from renewing the card, is a Class A misdemeanor. (a-5) A violation of paragraph (1) of subsection (a) of Section 2, when the person's Firearm Owner's Identification Card is expired but the person is not otherwise disqualified from owning, purchasing, or possessing firearms, is a petty offense if the card was expired for 6 months or less from the date of expiration. soundguy Posted January 24, 2018 at 11:50 PM Share Posted January 24, 2018 at 11:50 PM I think all FOID renewal is gonna be done on-line. You might try going here to set up your user account (if you haven't already) and see if you can renew now... Or give it a try at the beginning of summer. If you receive your new FOID before the old one expires, you shouldn't have a problem.
bmurph44 Posted January 25, 2018 at 12:41 AM Share Posted January 25, 2018 at 12:41 AM (edited) My wife just applied for her first ever FOID card, it took 3 weeks from application to in hand. Id apply at least one month before expiration to be safe. They now use the picture off your drivers license Edited January 25, 2018 at 12:41 AM by bmurph44
