Time limit on applying after initial training?

Hey all - here's a curious one for you.

Anyone ever hear of there being a time limit on how far after your initial course you can apply for your FCCL? A co-worker asked me about attending a class I have coming up, and told me he was interested because had been denied because he had waited (over a year possibly) to apply.

He said he had received a denial letter from the ISP FSB stating that he was being denied for it having been too long since he took his class. I asked him for copies of all his documentation, and he's getting it to me so I'll have a better idea of what happened. He's an Honorable Discharge veteran who attended a 16 hour class, no DUI/DV/other issues.

I reviewed the Act and the Admin Rules and found nothing that resembles the authority for the ISP to deny for this. (I also looked for any topics in this forum that resemble this, and found nothing)

Thought about called or e-mailing the ISP (after reviewing the docs) and asking if I could administer a 3-hour refresher class and have it suffice - if they'd be willing to actually answer the question.

Given that we have people in this state going on well over a year awaiting the outcome of their application, if the reason he provided is accurate I find this hypocritical at least.

Your thoughts?

Thought there's a post by MollyB about certs not expiring and being good period.

I'll look around, but m sure one of the admins in the know will drop by soon.

I'm sure there are others, but the titles of the threads aren't clear.

In one of this MollyB states that the training cert doesn't expire........

Again Good Luck

Correct, the training does not expire but the ISP has updated the certificate and the most recent certificate must be submitted. He just needs to have his instructor issue the new style certificate.

I think the ISP needs to update their way of thinking. If it's the training they required and a certificate that was good at one time it should be good forever. They've been given too much leeway. If I get a diploma from college and the diploma changes the initial diploma should still be good. I just felt like complaining today .

I have a daughter who has had her Illinois carry, moved to Kentucky and has theirs, and now looks like might be moving back to Illinois. I was thinking her training for Illinois would still be valid but now wonder. I was thinking she could use her original training certificate and just have to pay 150.00 and wait it out again. Am I wrong??? I guess we out to find out if it is the new or old one.

This crap makes you wanna scream and beat your head against the wall.

Logically thinking you would use your original certificate it's not as if you didn't unlearn everything from the course and she qualified for the CCL previously. Of course in my analogy above it didn't seem to work that way. I would definitely present that one to MollyB with a PM. If you call the ISP number who knows what kind of answer you would get. You could ask her instructor to give her an updated certificate with her original information

Figured I wait till she does move to get the skinny since things can change between now and then.
