Dems Mad That Government Report On Gun Sales Didnt Confirm Their Talking Points

Kerry Picket

WASHINGTON Democratic lawmakers dont like the methodology that the Government Accountability Office used to find that its difficult to buy firearms illegally on the internet.

The Democrats requested the report on online gun sales, but now they seem to want a new study to be conducted with different methodology.

Well, when we send something to GAO, we allow them to do the process that they think makes sense. But we do have a disagreement with their methodology, and were going to go and sit down with them and discuss how to get at the problem, Hawaii Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz told The Daily Caller last Thursday.

He continued, Our view is that it is still absolutely possible to legally purchase guns online. The way that the GAO analysts did it is, they announced to the sellers, Hey Id like to buy some guns illegally. I think the sellers are wise enough to that to decline, so we did not agree with their methodology, but well continue to work on this issue.
...
GAOs findings showed nothing so much as that private sellers advertising online are knowledgeable about the law, conscientious, and self-policing, The National Rifle Association said in a statement, and buying firearms via the internet are subject to the same federal laws that apply to any other commercial or private gun sales.

Websites like gunbroker.com and cheaperthandirt.com are popular legal online auction forums for firearm and ammunition purchases. At such sites, a buyer must present to a Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) seller another FFL dealer in the buyers home state for any purchased firearm to be sent to.

Once the firearm arrives at the receiving FFLs site, the buyer must undergo and pass a federal background check before leaving with the weapon.

The DC asked Sen. Schatz if he took issue with these websites that operate legitimately and he stated he could not address the issue at that time.

On 5/25/2017, Superintendent Eddie Johnson predicted a 50% reduction is Chicago violence within 3 years of SB1722 becoming law.  The bill was signed into law on 6/23/2017. The clock is now ticking.

“Our view is that it is still absolutely possible to legally purchase guns online."

So, essentially, they have a conclusion already and want to have that conclusion substantiated by the data that is collected. Isn't that the opposite of the scientific method and ethical research?

They just will not accept the truth.  Always been this way.  Always gonna stay that way.  Cue the webster definition of insanity.

I believe this is how the CDC got in trouble when they did the "43 times more likely" study.  They twisted the numbers to confirm an anti-gun bias.... which is not a study but a witch hunt.

SO what?

Yes, it is possible to legally purchase guns online.  Key word legally, i.e. with background check, via a local FFL, etc. etc. AND via whatever state and local laws/rules apply (I.e. we still get to do Illinois' 1 and 3 day waits).

Typo? Of course it's possible to legally purchase guns on-line.

I think they believe there is a "legal" loophole that the investigators where not able to exploit on-line because they announced they were legally forbidden from owning a firearm... and that if they hadn't "admitted" that then someone would have "legally" sold them firearms. We know that is not true but I've run into many that think it is.
