I received my ARRFF on July 25th.  There is bad information for 16 of my firearms, either "unknown" for manufacturer or "unknown" for model or both.  So according to the instructions in the ARRFF, I look at the change of information form and it only contains information about me, not the firearm.

So then I look at the letter to see how much time I have to return it and it has no due date nor number of days.  I check the ordinance...only states that a late form is subject to a $60 fine.  Then I check the rules and regulations, no information as to what is "late".

It's the annual registration report sent to us to return with any changes, like if we lost or sold a registered firearm (note, we have to report such within 72 hours of losing or selling so if you wait until the annual report to notify them you'll be violating an ordinance).

Absolutely unbelievable the hoops that Chicago residents must jump through to own a firearm in the city.  How complacent has the citizenry been in the last 40 years to allow them to get to this point??

We must pass CCW for the entire state, then work on pre-emption to remove all of those ridiculous rules and ordinances that you folks live under.

Worse yet, all those rules and ordinances do nothing to reduce crime.

You guys should put in the memmo of your check   " for sexual services" I have done this before when I feel I'm being raped of my money and it does get attention,  I have actually been called about it by companies before asking me to kindly not print that again.  I told them  to quit raping me and I would.

The sad truth is that in Chicago there are perhaps two generations of people who were born under the gun ban and have no relationship with the shooting sports in their families. In a city of several million there are what? Well under 200,000 FOID cards? Chicago gun owners keep a very low profile by choice and design and therefore unfortunatley have no 'voting block' power against the anti-gun machine.

Just got my (B)ARRFF and it also had firearm maker and model as unknown.  Also had the serial number wrong.  All info is correct on the initial registration form.  Gun desk said all I needed to do was make a note on the ARRFF and send it back. I feel that someday we will not have to put up with this nonsense, but that day isn't here yet.  :D

I just checked the dates on my registrations and saw that they expire in about 2 weeks, so I filled out 3 new registration forms that I downloaded from the Chicago Police website. Then I made copies of my FOID and CFP. I checked "renewal" on the registration form.

I just assumed that this is the way to do it, I didn't get any ARRFF form yet. Should I have gotten it by now?

Do I need to pay to renew my registrations, or was that a one time thing? I hope they aren't trying to screw me around by not sending me some kind of renewal. Maybe we need some kind of watchdog service to make sure they don't try to weasel out of sending renewals.

Any ideas before I send out my newly printed renewals? I worried about the closeness of the expiration date, I may need to move my guns out of state until my registrations are in my hands.

The only thing I get in the mail is from the AARP, trying to get me to join

My renewal just came.  It was all preprinted.  Just signed "no changes" and returned -- had to use my own envelope though!

When does your current registration expire, how many days before expiration did your registration arrive?

Mine is a couple of weeks away. If it doesn't arrive today I guess I'll be calling them.

Maybe I'm being overly-cynical, but part of me wonders if they're under instructions to purposefully mess up these reports to cause more headaches and hassles for gun owners.

On a side-note: I moved a short distance west to get a non-Chicago address because I was tired of not owning handguns (well, that was one of the larger of several issues). After McDonald, I was a little regretful since it was (i THOUGHT) no longer an issue.  You folks' stories take away every last drop of my regret. :/

I spoke to someone at the gun desk today because I misplaced/lost the registration certificate for my pistol and wanted to find out what the procedure is.  Turns out she is mailing me out a copy.  Great interaction, but these pieces of paper seem pretty weak.  First, a copy?  Second, since the registration is on their computers, what is the point of my having the piece of paper?

By the way, it just so happens to be the certificate for the pistol I first tried to register in 2007 and was at issue in McDonald.

Not sure when I registered it the second time, I think it was July or early August.  All four of us (McDonald plaintiffs) went down together and filed shortly after getting our CFPs.

I registered one week after mcdonald

My last name is mcdonald as well

I was working on a denial for the same purpose.

The thought that my app sat in the same inbox as another mcdonald makes me smile

So I've successfully registered a firearm that was purchases last year and stored outside the city, so can confirm that it can be done.

By the way, the officer that handled this recent registration took the time to advise me that my FOID expired (11/01/11) and enclosed an application.  I didn't need it as I've been renewed, though my card has not arrived despite being promised it would arrive this week.

This continues a multi-year streak of great service from the folks manning the gun desk.

They cashed my check in September and said it was processed a couple weeks ago and should have been mailed out this week.

3 more weeks now since they have to re-print my FOID.

This means not only can I not go to a range or gun store, but I can't register a firearm because they require a copy of my FOID.

This creates an interesting legal quandry... :)

No reason for it to take three weeks to reprint a card.  Do as you will, but I have two words for you......."Call Todd".

Your check was cashed in September.  Now it's November, nearly mid November.  And you're told to wait another three weeks!!??  Call Todd, I'll PM the number if you don't have it.

This is totally unacceptable.  And here I thought they were really trying to do better!!

Maybe it was lost in the mail? It should be easy enough to find out.

When my FOID was late I called up and talked to a sweet lady who moved my application to the top of the pile while I had her on the phone. Got my FOID card a few days later.

Sending the card to the wrong address seems pretty common. They did it to me and seemed to be in no hurry to find out who actually ended up with it.

Yes. I'm predicting that Chicago/Cook county will be sold out in order to get "shall issue".

My FOID card materialized on Monday!  I think thanks to some behind the scenes intervention by our favorite lobbyist.  Mailed renewal on Sep 15th, check cashed on Sep 24th, issued on Oct 24th, re-issued on Nov 9th, received on Nov 22nd.

Now at least I can set foot in a gun store/range as mine was expired as of Nov 1.

ETA:  That makes 58 days or so from check cashing.
