He is holding several training sessions right here in Illinois in May. http://www.icetraining.us/calendar.html Really excited. I'll be going to the May 6 class. sirflyguy Posted February 9, 2016 at 02:57 AM Share Posted February 9, 2016 at 02:57 AM And even some in my neck of the woods down south! I cannot do the Combat Focus thing in July, but am very interested in the Defensive Firearms Coach Certification Course. I am free those days in August and it is very close to where I live. icm2014 Posted March 26, 2016 at 04:52 PM Share Posted March 26, 2016 at 04:52 PM Just finished the one day version of Combat Focus Shooting in Florida.Highly recommended. Leave your ego at home because you will learn how to really 'Run your gun" under stress. Pincus is very direct and will improve your shooting. Not a course that emphasizes timed target practice. This video will show what physical actions the Combat Focus Shooting class teaches. During constant movement we shot at about 8 different stationary targets during this drill not the target system demonstrated. .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L3jOxbboy4
thobart Posted March 27, 2016 at 08:07 AM Share Posted March 27, 2016 at 08:07 AM I have taken a CFS class. It was pretty good but I think they overthink things a bit. While I understand where Rob is coming from I dont always agree with the focus of the training, For example they stress having a reaction to a threat. While I agree you will have a reaction to a threat I have no idea what it might be. It could be anything from getting your hands up to drawing to going hands on and blocking. I just would never know how I would react. Since I dont know I would prefer to focus on the gun handling aspects of reacting rather then the how I might react part. I think that if I have a good draw from different positions and my mechanics are good I will do ok. This has proven out through my training including force on force situations. I can generally outdrawn most people when it is a tie. I generally lose if they initiate action which is true of just about anyone. So like everyone else including Rob and CFS training I move off the line of force and then draw. Well if that is what I am going to do why am I practicing to flinch or react in some sort of preconceived way. I think I will just react right or wrong. This to me seems like scenario training that is a bit more random then staged situations. Dont get me wrong I see value in it just not sure how it is all that much different then staged or force on force training. Bottom line for me is the CFS training seems like other good training classes just a bit overthought. Take what works for you and leave the rest.
