I am just burned out .In Illinois you need to be 21 to own and purchase a handgun , You need to be 21 to get our IL CCW, BUT In Saturdays NRA Basic Pistol , A father asked if he could bring his 16 year old son with him (No Charge for the Young one) . Heck yes you can . This was his 1st time with handguns . Took the class to the range started the young one off with the S&W 22a out of 30 shots fired 29 were in the 10 ring 1 in the 8 ring . I let him shoot S&W MP9 , S&W 686 6" 38 special , 357 magnum , Beretta 96a1 .40SW and G21 45acp and a S&W 629 44 magnum . He did great with all of them but rocked with the 9mm .He received his NRA basic pistol certificate . On to the point of this postSunday the young one came back for the Illinois Class .We went with us to the range for the Illinois Live fire qualification . He Qualified 30 out of 30 . At the end of the day I had his Dad present him with a Certificate of Completion just like the rest of the students who passed . So he cannot get his license but by God he will get bragging rights , and rightfully so as he earned it I asked one of the students to take pictures with the dads phone . When the picture taker person 1st came into class I swore he was an undercover ISP , something LE . I could not place him . Turns out he is a United States Attorney (Federal) out of the Southern Illinois District/ East St Louis . He qualified using a S&W 66 2" barrel . It states in the Law you have to be 21 to get your License . And as of yet there is no expiration date for training . The following Monday, the student and some friends walking into English class... #1 "So where were you all weekend? We were gonna go out to the mall and play vid games. #2. "My dad took me qualify for my Illinios Concealed Carry of a gun license. I got the certificate in my backpack here somewhere.
