2018 Veto Session Quick Reference List of Bills

You knew it would happen. For now it's hiding on the other side of the election, but the 2018 Veto Session is just around the corner.

The lists that follow include some old business that might resurface this Fall - bills that are still in their original house, bills that have moved to the other house, and bills potentially on concurrence. Adding to these are a few newer bills filed through the Summer and early Fall.

As always, we encourage our members to participate by volunteering to watch for new bills as they are filed. Please post in this thread or send me a PM if you'd like a block of bill numbers to monitor.

For now, get out and vote for the most pro-2A candidates you can find but remember, the letter after your candidate's name is no guarantee of their support for our rights. If the Spring session showed us anything, it was a firm reminder that we must stay vigilant always.

It only makes sense in context of the original bill.

The introduced version makes it illegal for those under the age of 21 to possess "assault things". SA1 creates an affirmative defense if the device was possessed prior to the bill becoming law, if it was possessed in the presence of a person over age 21 who has a valid FOID card, or in that person's vehicle.

It's an attempt to make it appear that our kids won't go to jail for the things we own, but an affirmative defense is only a guarantee of sorts that once in court, a successful defense can be mounted. Jail, and the things a young person often experiences in jail, would still be part of the process.

  • 2 weeks later...

I added HR1303 Armed Teachers - Oppose today. They oppose us, and we oppose them.

Synopsis As Introduced

Declares opposition to any legislation that provides for local school boards having the option of developing safety and protection plans for their schools which includes administrators, faculty, and other staff to be actively armed while on school grounds.

Fixed it for them...
