Has anyone ever thought to take these anti-gun legislators to the range and let them hear a gun with a suppressor being fired? I know that some will hem and haw and make excuses why they won't go. They don't want to be proven wrong and learn that suppressors don't completely silence a firearm's report.....like they do in Hollywood.

But, hey......is this worth a try? Just like we try to get anti-gun citizens to the range, let them fire a gun and find out how much fun it is when you hit your target. Perhaps we could sway a couple Dems by getting them to the range on a little "fact finding mission" let them hear a suppressed firearm and then say "You want to try firing this pistol Senator? It's lots of fun! I'll talk you through it."

That assumes that they COULD be swayed, most are knee jerk legislators that the only way to change their rabid anti status is to replace them. They have bought into the mindset Todd has talked about recently - that is to block ALL legislation that is NOT anti-gun and horse trade relaxing that opposition for passing portions of their anti agenda.

IF we were talking a football game: It's gonna be a dirty, muddy, dragged out, yard by yard bone breaking ground game slog to each score.

Here is the synopsis of SB0050. I divided it into sections for easier reading. The link is to the full text.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Provides the annual training of police chiefs must include at least one course on the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act, the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, and firearms investigations.

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Permits the State Police to notify the FBI if a person on the Terrorist Watchlist applies for a FOID card. Requires the State Police to provide notice and reason for the disqualification of a firearm purchase or a FOID card revocation to all law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction to assist with the seizure of the person's FOID card.

Adds as grounds to deny an application for or to revoke or seize the person's FOID card that the person is charged with making a terrorist threat or soliciting or providing material support for terrorism. Makes other changes.

Amends the Firearm Concealed Carry Act. Provides that a person may not carry a concealed handgun equipped with a silencer.

Amends the Wildlife Code. Removes the prohibition on using a silencer to mute the sound resulting from firing a gun.

Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that the offense of unlawful use of weapons includes knowingly: using, or possessing with the intent to use, a silencer on a handgun, except at a shooting range; or possessing any silencer for firearms, other than handguns, not in compliance with the National Firearms Act. Provides that the offense of unlawful sale or delivery of firearms includes knowingly transferring a silencer to a person not authorized to possess the silencer under federal law. Effective immediately.

I do not see why suppressors should not be allowed for conceal carry. With the current technology carrying with one would be cumbersome, but that should be a practical, not a legal, concern. Who knows what future technology will allow?

The bill also uses the inaccurate term “silencer”, rather than “sound suppressor”. “Silencer” tends to have a negative connotation in the public eye.
