  1. During the cold war I was trained by the US Army to translate Russian. As part of the training we read Russian media, in fact at one school we had an instructor who had been a newscaster on the Moscow TV station, so I got to see a lot of propaganda. I had already seen that the International Herald Tribune (European joint venture between the New York Times and Washington Post) could report the same story as the New York Times but leave you with a completely opposite conclusion. The same facts reported but different assumptions expected of their audiences. People accept propaganda because not everything they say is a lie, sometime its the truth, sometimes it comes with unstated assumptions. If I find I've been lied to I switch from accepting the source unless proven otherwise to disbelieving the source, on all matters, unless confirmed elsewhere. For instance, if you see a news item where its obvious the reported doesn't know the first thing about firearms, doesn't that make you trust the publisher less? What makes you think they're more knowledgeable about anything they report? So at this point I don't believe anything until I've had a chance to hear/read other sources and evaluate which story makes the most sense based on my knowledge and experience. Basically, they're all either lying or ignorant and its up to me to figure out what is most likely true.
  2. In case anybody else is in the same situation I emailed the ATF and received the following response: In order for us to update our system with the change, such as destruction, removal, additional configuration or something else please send in a signed request. There is no specific form to do this. Just write a letter explaining what you have done or plan to do, sign it and email it to NFAfax@atf.gov, Fax to 304-616-4501 or mail to BATFE 244 Needy Road Martinsburg WV 25405.
  3. It was originally a pistol. What is the process to unregister?
  4. I have an SBR properly registered with ATF. I'm thinking that I'd like to return it to a pistol so that if necessary I can move it out of state without notify'ing the ATF of its new location. How do I go about doing this? Has anyone done it before?
  5. I do too. I was asking if there was a way we could set up automatic monthly contributions to the Illinois Carry litigation fund?
  6. I've had $50/mo paid directly from my checking account to a national gun rights organization for the last year. When I set it up I planned on doing it for one year only and as far as I know they're not involved in any litigation in Illinois. Does Illinois Carry have a way to set something up so I can start doing that for contributions to the litigation fund? I trust Illinois Carry to see that the money goes to the organization that will put it to best use.
  7. I ran across this thread somehow while I was trying to figure out which organization to contribute to help fight this and went and donated $200 to the forum litigation fund. Having been a member here for almost 20 years I am confident that the money will be well spent. That said after I made the donation I spent 10 to 15 minutes trying to find this thread again so I could follow it. This thread needs to be at the top of every forum section with enlarged, bolt, underlined print so that it is impossible to miss. Any chance of making it more prominent for the members who aren't actively searching it out?
