This link is to information about a League of Women Voters hosted event coming up in Jacksonville next Wednesday. Jacksonville has two very liberal small colleges and the information described in the program/agenda is both controversial and likely to be nonsense. Weve certainly heard it before. The focus is on the proposed Dealer Registration and automatic weapons. Some informed, articulate gun owners may serve to dilute the kool aid.

I intend to be there. Its at 7 pm in the council chambers on the second floor of the Municipal Building in the 200 block of West Douglas. This is the same building that houses the police and fire departments

Is this only going to a presentation. or will there be a discussion? Would having pro gun women from Sangamon County help?

Figures .. well, in that case, I'm not going to burn extra PTO just to show up wearing my TWAW hat.

I wish The Well Armed Women would attend and be a presence in the room. Let them see informed, intelligent women with a difference of opinion. Take flyers promoting TWAW chapters to hand out!! Is there a chapter in this area?

The closest chapter is Rochester, Illinois about 40 miles from Jacksonville. However, many of their members are from Springfield which is about 1/2 hour away. I emailed Sidden's where they meet and the person listed as contact for the WAW chapter. I have not gotten an email response from them. While my wife does not belong to WAW she is an avid trap shooter and has a concealed carry permit. If more than one woman was going, I'm sure I could get her to go.

Looks like there is a chapter in Marion Molly. Maybe Honeybee can give more information.

UPDATE: My wife is dressing up in business attire and going to be there. She still hopes that other women will join her.

The focus is on the proposed Dealer Registration and automatic weapons.

Is this a typo or did they really say automatic?

They really did say automatic. Third paragraph of the article. "Automatic assault weapons". I would just assume it was a misspoken comment from the quoted speaker. She undoubtedly did mean semiautomatic.

Many of the antis dont understand the difference and dont care to be educated. Im sure many would like to remove the semis also.

Semiautomatic contains the dreaded word automatic, so it's just as bad. Non-automatic also contains the hated word, so that'll be next.

We simply must begin to educate the uneducated! At one time, (and not all that long ago) everyone that rode a Harley was considered a danger to society and promptly escorted out of town by the local cop. I know this to be FACT because I was one of those individuals often told to 'just keep on moving' years ago. And now look how things have changed.

We have to begin educating the uneducated non gunowner minions that it's repeat offending gang members and not local gun owners that are the problem. And it's the few unstable minded souls that are causing the carnage and not concealed carry folks. Let's inform them that semi-autos have been around for a hundred years - why is it only NOW that we see mass shootings?! AND automatic weapons have been heavily regulated since the National Firearms Act of 1934!

And who better to educate a room full of woman voters than WELL ARMED WOMEN shooters?!

They absolutely meant semiautomatic, the words are synonymous to them! They want them all, 22’s included, if not today, tomorrow. When I was working, back in the late 80’s, we had a request from the gov’s office for info on all AR 15s used in crime. There were none, so the request was modified for info on all long guns used in the commission of a crime. We had three or four, all 12 ga shotguns and .22 rifles. They went with it. This was when IL was moving to prohibit ownership of (genuine NFA) weapons.

Yep, especially the last part of your post. It's pretty obvious nobody is interested in what white, middle aged men with beer guts (I resemble that remark, lol) think. A crowd of well informed women though could move mountains.

Hey! I don't have a beer gut, but I am also far past middle age. I'll let my wife do the talking and the few other women that appear to be coming.

O.K. My wife and I just came from this event. There were about 35-40 people there. The local LOWV had brought in three speakers - all from the Chicago area. Two were volunteers who were maybe getting expenses, and the other one was Mark Walsh, a paid employee of Illinois Coalition for Gun Violence Prevention. They tried to totally control the meeting insisting on written questions only and delivering a Power Point that looked like something a low level white collar employee would have done in the 1980s. Of course they used faulty statistics and sophist arguments to try to make their points. When they took questions they didn't like they gave answers that didn't have a thing to do with the questions. They did finally take verbal questions and did as badly on them, if not worse, than they did with the written questions.

90% of the room were pro-gun men and women from Jacksonville. The only anti-gun people were the speakers and the two women who organized the meeting.

To the best of my knowledge, there were no TWAW members there, nor any other official pro gun group employees there.

Whatever they wanted to happen was pretty much overwhelmed by the audience, who were polite but not very much in agreement.

Pretty much how the Marengo meeting about a gun range went when they voted on it. Maybe 10-15 antis, 150-200 pro’s.

Awesome outcome, and glad our team showed up to yesterday’s event!!
