FOID Renewal mailing.... anyway else stuck waiting?

I am a CCL holder.

I applied for my FOID renewal EARLY. December 18th. My Physical FOID expires 3/1/19. The new car went active 2/1/2019 but I've yet to receive it (2/19/19)

I've tried calling the hotline several times a day for the past few days but can't even get through. I submitted a form mail on the ISP website. I'm not sure what else to do. My current physical card expires in 9 days. This is ridiculous. Do I need to contact an attorney?

A right delayed is a right denied, after all.

In the case of renewal you should be covered by the fact you applied for renewal before expiration of your FOID. That has been covered by many posts in these forums. As for someone in my situation of getting a FOID for the first time as a "new" resident of Illinois that seems like another way to delay a person for exercising their Constitutional right. Card Active yet you still cannot legally purchase or even possess a firearm until you have the physical card in hand.

According to the letter of the law, you are *not* covered, and furthermore no range/store is going to sell you Ammo/Range time with an expired card. Not if they're doing their due dilligence anyway. I Do have my CCL which bypasses this, but if I didn't I'd be up a creek until the new FOID arrived.

(B) Renewal applications shall be approved or denied within 60 business days, provided the applicant submitted his or her renewal application prior to the expiration of his or her Firearm Owner's Identification Card. If a renewal application has been submitted prior to the expiration date of the applicant's Firearm Owner's Identification Card, the Firearm Owner's Identification Card shall remain valid while the Department processes the application, unless the person is subject to or becomes subject to revocation under this Act. The cost for a renewal application shall be $10 which shall be deposited into the State Police Firearm Services Fund.
