solareclipse2 Posted June 16, 2017 at 03:01 PM Share Posted June 16, 2017 at 03:01 PM Actually, you've committed a felony if you accidentally shoot and kill yourself. Unless they repealed the subsection of the Criminal Code making it a felony to commit suicide. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk And in that case, you get the death penalty. I know it is illegal to "attempt" suicide. But not sure it's illegal to succeed.
kster Posted June 16, 2017 at 03:54 PM Share Posted June 16, 2017 at 03:54 PM well you can't succeed until you try try try! *purple* it does create several legal and social issues though. things like social benefits that aren't granted to felons. public assistance programs that provide housing and cash assistance would be cut off for survivors family that are dependent. skinnyb82 Posted June 16, 2017 at 09:42 PM Share Posted June 16, 2017 at 09:42 PM It's also unconstitutional to try someone for a crime who was suffering from disease or mental defect (or "insanity") at the time of the crime. I think it's safe to say that it would be impossible to prosecute someone for attempting suicide. Besides, attempting suicide is no longer a crime in Illinois. Same goes for suicide, but inducement is a felony. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
