No TyGuy, its just that we're running out of time to try to move the bill now. It would take at least several hours to get it through all the steps. It look's like those hours aren't there anymore.
HB1907 is up.

I realize that this will accomplish nothing, but had to do something. Both offices said they'd pass along the message and the Chicago one asked for my name and number to register my comments...

Prior to that, they concurred on the amendment to HB1907.

Guys just relax, watch the hearing next week then enjoy your summer, carry everywhere you can in IL and spend as much time outside IL as possible and just wait for the big hammer to come down on Madigan from the courts.

I've posted a graph before showing the total # of Illinois employed workers keeps finding new lows after each recession, while the nation at large has typically recovered to a new high point. That is structural failure and leadership failure, not just the business cycle. We gain leverage to fight this suffocating leadership by showing $$$$$$ costs that will register with the average taxpayer.

At some point you would think this would get the attention of the politicians. I voted with my feet two years ago. As a result, Illinois lost many thousands of dollars a year in tax money I was paying. I am also trying to get my daughter and her family to bail out. Their real estate tax bill is $12,500 and they have just about had it. IMO, the bulk of those leaving are contributors, not takers.

The current crop of lawsuits will end when the right to bear arms, outside of the home, is recognized by the SCOTUS. Passage of a carry bill will not stop the remaining suits that have been filed across the country. Yes there are criminal (and some civil) cases that are setting 'bad precedent,' but the right cases are working their way up.
I hope you are right, but I don't see a win here even at SCOTUS. I doubt they would even take the case. Maybe it would succeed after some years of smaller 2nd Amendment wins, but now is premature. Still, I'll keep my fingers crossed... It's very frustrating to be the only state without ccw.

I certainly admire and respect you, Druid, but must say that on this issue, I don't share your pessimism (though it is probably well-earned). It is flatly inevitable that the SCOTUS will take a "bear arms" case, because whether "the right to bear arms" guarantee means anything, or not, simply must be resolved. They were forced to resolve the "keep" question, and now they must resolve "bear." It is inevitable. And I must say ... the Illinois cases pending at the 7th circuit are about as clean and neat as such cases come.
When, I don't know. But I do know that it will be resolved, and I am very confident it will be resolved generally in our favor (in favor of a workable right to arms that comports with history and historical precedent).

However this ends today, I want to acknowledge Todd's work in giving us what, by any standard, has been a very successful Spring. There is dissapointment to be sure, but we've sent a number of good bills to the governor's desk, stopped at least one bad bill, and found common ground on a third making it a win for all concerned.
Also, appologies to TomKoz and Uncle Harley. Not that you need my permision but you know you're always welcome to participate in the ILGA threads. I'm sure you understand that I needed to keep these last few days more focused than normal.
Back later...

Chicago is the second best place for people who feel they're "entitled" Unless you had a ticket to Santa Monica, you'd be crazy to leave Chicago. It's a sweet heart deal, they pay you just for having kids, they feed your kids breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, you get housing assistance, subsidized utilities and food stamps. All you have to do is vote the way they tell you to.
Santa Monica does all that plus they give you spaghetti dinners
