Is this for a handgun?

For those using lights on handguns, if you are not using your off-hand, do you practice firing with an adjusted grip or while using your off-hand?

I don't have any lights mounted on hand-guns, but I do have a couple of TLR-HL's mounted on AR's. That TLR-7 had really good reviews when I looked.

It is for a handgun. I previously had an Olight PL1. It was a nice but inexpensive light, but I couldn't reach the controls so after a test fit, it went back in the box and was sold at a bit of a loss here. The gun I have set up with a light already is a braced pistol type gun. It doesn't sit out on the nightstand though, and carry in anything other than a duffel is silly to consider. I'm thinking I'd like to try to get a light for a concealable pistol again so I have a lighted option when going out at night, and a better option for the nightstand. I'm really only interested in the compact models, but each has a caveat.

PL Mini... stupid QD clip sticks out, makes finding a quality holster maker more challenging, and the high power only last 1 minute before dropping down to 70 lumens.

APLC looks about right for my needs, but uses weird batteries and is relatively low output. 200 lumens seems decent indoors, in medium sized rooms up to 20x20. Outdoors might be anemic. Whole point is for positive ID of a threat....if I can't tell a cell phone from a weapon...yeah.

TLR7 looks about right for my needs, has the power to work outdoors, but might to too bright indoors with blinding splash-back off white walls. I'm really doubting I can operate it one handed. I wear men's size medium gloves.

XC1B still has reports of being unreliable. It's way too expensive to want to fool with that.

Viridian has a light only model, expensive for what it is, and ugly, and expensive, and I probably can't reach the buttons one handed, and really, it's expensive

Sig has the Foxtrot1, which really looks like a APL to me, for $50 more than an APL. I hear the buttons are stiff. And it's a little too long anyway.

WHY must these all be fricking compromise type propositions?

I had a TLR-2G light/laser combo, mounted on a S&W TRR8 .357 revolver with a 5" barrel. It worked very well, but as stated above, the light was WAY too bright for indoors and, IMO, it would be too large for a CCW. I am currently using a Lasermax Spartan green light/green laser combo which I am very impressed with for indoor use. I have smallish hands and can reach the buttons with either index finger; plus, you can adjust it as necessary. The only caveat is that for really short fingers, the buttons would need to extend into the trigger guard, which is a no-no.

After spending the past few days on this whenever I found a spare moment, I'm getting the PL Mini. The switches look to be situated where I can reach them, and I found a few holster makers for it, though I'm holding off on getting a holster until I can evaluate the light. If I hate it there's no sense in having an extra $50+ burned on a holster that'll be hard to sell.

I found a coupon code to save 10%, so the PL Mini was $71 shipped. Doesn't seem like too big a risk to try it out.

Looks like a nice light but the apparent non user replaceable internal "contact us when it goes dead" battery would be my biggest concern. Might not be an issue though given its cost and if you get the mentioned 500 charges.

Yeah, given cost, I don't think it's going to matter. It's not like I'm planning to charge it daily. Maybe weekly, and after 5 years replacement with latest greatest thing.

These guys make holsters for the Olight WML. I can't endorse because I haven't tried, but somebody makes them which removes that complaint.

I got the Olight PL Mini today in the mail. It's pretty slick. Weighs next to nothing, clamps on the rail solid. I CAN reach the switches. That's been a problem for me. I still need to range test it, but so far I can't really find a problem with it other than it doesn't say Sure Fire or Streamlight on the side, and my wallet is a little heavier.
