Teufel Hunden Posted March 9, 2018 at 05:34 PM Share Posted March 9, 2018 at 05:34 PM Justice Kennedy. He is usually the "swing" vote in closely decided Supreme Court cases. If President Trump selects the replacement, it would shift the Court more conservative. This assumes President Trump's selection is similar to Justice Gorsuch. chicagoresident Posted March 9, 2018 at 07:02 PM Share Posted March 9, 2018 at 07:02 PM It was reported earlier that he has been notifying staff of his departure. But if I was a betting man I'm guessing it won't happen until after November's election. And depending on how that goes he might hang on another 2 years. Remember, any picks have to be confirmed by the Senate and we all saw how difficult that was last time even with a majority. Short of death I doubt we'll see RBG or Kennedy replaced until they have a senate that will appoint like minded candidates. Kennedy has gone both ways on gun issues so he's not as important as RBG to get out. And if the president and senate flip in 2020 we could get a candidate more left then either. I thought Mauseme posted something in his looming departure.

When it boils down to it, they're just judges. They can't be going out and criticizing political candidates. It's unethical. It manipulates voters (if the comments cause one person to change their vote, that's enough for me). What TRULY boggles the mind is that she won't refuse herself from cases involving the Trump administration. And she won't recuse herself, no one can really force her to either. cherryriver Posted March 23, 2018 at 01:43 AM Share Posted March 23, 2018 at 01:43 AM Worse for Ginsburg is her publicly calling for "international law" to be obeyed by the US Supreme Court, lesser courts, and the US Congress. Doing so is illegal. That should have been an impeachable offense right there. But, that's not how law works, we have learned.

I even took the time to do a little research on it.

Xwing Posted March 23, 2018 at 12:50 PM Share Posted March 23, 2018 at 12:50 PM Ginsburg will never be impeached. It is a very high bar required and will never happen. She ignores the Constitution regularly and makes up her own laws. But she is well-loved by all liberals (and well tolerated by independents who get their info from left-wing MSM), and Congress would not even think of trying to impeach her. She will only leave the SCOTUS feet-first, unless the country elects a socialist president in 2 years (in which case she'll resign to get a like-minded justice appointed.)
