Question about carrying a gun in a case on your belt.

Greetings.

I've got a little 2 shot .357 Derringer with a custom made leather case that can we worn with a belt. The case looks nothing like a holster. In fact, it looks like a large cell phone case, with a flap that snaps. You cannot see what is inside the case. Would this be considered "concealed", even though it is worn on the outside of my clothing? And no, this is not my concealed carry weapon, but I carry a revolver, so I'm limited to 5 rounds. The derringer would give me an extra 2.

If the handgun, regardless of type, is loaded and not visible? You are concealed carrying. The requirements for legal "transport' are listed in tons of other posts on this forum.

I would note that there are a number of pocket sized .380 and 9mm handguns of about the same size and weight that offer a lot more capacity than two rounds from a derringer.

... magazine fed firearms make more sense ...

Although I've never FOID-carried, I've often thought that a revolver and moon clips would be, in some sense, better than a magazine-fed pistol. Loading and unloading wouldn't involve racking a slide in addition to inserting/removing the mag.

When I FOID carry I lock the slide back on a mag fed. Then insert mag, release slide lock good to go.

That may be true, I'm not a huge revolver guy so I tend to gravitate towards semi autos. It also may be hard to get a revolver in that slim PDA style holster while still keeping its slim/low profile. There's a lot of nice pocket semi autos these days that keep those slim lines.

Guys, OP never said he was asking about FOID carry. In fact, he stated that his CCW weapon is a revolver, and he just wants to carry this as a backup. His question is one of legally concealed, not one of FOID carry.

Just keep in mind carrying and transporting are not the same thing.

Thank you for that link. I was not aware of that company. And yes, that is exactly what my case looks like. I'm amazed they have them for the J frame guns..
