Windermere Posted March 6, 2016 at 01:36 PM Share Posted March 6, 2016 at 01:36 PM Anyone been through the advanced pistol classes at on target range? My Ccl should be in the mail soon and I need to step up my training. I'm looking for something more on the intense side and makes you work under heavy stress. I saw the spartan tactical thread but didn't see the course I wanted on the calendar. On target is relatively close to me. I've purchased there and target practice so I'm familiar with the place. Thanks in advance.

tony_the_barber Posted May 18, 2016 at 04:50 AM Share Posted May 18, 2016 at 04:50 AM Bump. I'd also like to know about On Target. I shoot there and just bought a G19 there last month. Any feedback about classes? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
phox Posted June 13, 2016 at 08:43 PM Share Posted June 13, 2016 at 08:43 PM I took the intermediate handgun class at on target and I do not regret the time I spent in class as I did learn a fair bit. That being said I have also taken one of Rocco's courses. All other things being even if given the choice between the two I too would pick Rocco at Black Flag. tony_the_barber Posted September 3, 2016 at 12:36 AM Share Posted September 3, 2016 at 12:36 AM Has anyone tried On Targets virtual trainer? Was it worth the cost? I tried it once. The shooting portion of my CCL class was held there. After class was over, they had someone run us all through it for an hour or so, no extra charge. It was pretty fun! Not bad for the cost if you get a few people to go. BTW, my class was with an independent instructor, not through On Target. ScottFM Posted July 23, 2017 at 12:07 PM Share Posted July 23, 2017 at 12:07 PM https://www.ontargetsite.com/blog/whats-big-deal-5-star-range/ They just got rated 5-star by the NSSF on the 21st of July 2017 "f you had visited us within the last two weeks, you may have noticed the “5 Star” plaque on the wall directly behind our center register and another as you reach the top of the stairway. A number of businesses proclaim to be a “5 Star” operation so another emblem, sticker, or plaque may not draw too much attention. For this reason, we feel the need to hang up our usual cloak of humility and indulge ourselves for a small stretch down the path of braggadocio. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) does not hand out this coveted award like candy. Only two ranges in Illinois have taken the long and arduous journey for this achievement and OnTarget is one of them. Below is the “short list” of attributes required just to be considered for such a prestigious award:State of the art ventilationAbsolute compliance with OSHA, EPA, and ATF regulationsClean and secure facilityAdequate range lightingRange Safety OfficersA multitude of classes for all ages and experience levels taught by professional instructorsA clean and modern classroom environment conducive to learningRegular special events for the public and for private groupsRegular firearms qualification for the staffWritten and comprehensive employee handbook, training and safety manualsBackground checks for all employees plus regular lead and drug screeningFirst aid training for all staffStrong community relations and charity eventsHandicap accessibility"

Bubbacs Posted July 24, 2017 at 12:33 AM Share Posted July 24, 2017 at 12:33 AM Ranges submit their docs, based upon docs and forms a board decides, no in house meeting according to the web site unless they need extra docs or find some amiss. Great job by those who took the time to get the rating! Wonder why more don't try.......
Brownshoe Posted July 24, 2017 at 07:29 PM Share Posted July 24, 2017 at 07:29 PM According to the NSSF press release about Maxons: "Ranges that appear to meet the criteria for Four- or Five-star rating receive an on-site evaluation by NSSF staff. NSSF member ranges that meet a Three-star rating are recognized for being a part of the Star-Rating range family and are provided guidance to improve their facilities and achieve the higher two ratings." Just west of RT. 59https://www.nssf.org/chicagos-maxon-shooters-supplies-indoor-range-earns-coveted-nssf-five-star-rating/ After the Warrenville range announcement, info kind of went into a dark hole. Point Blank in Naperville is making progress, but last people that reported looking at the Maxon location reported no obvious external progress. I looked at the Warrenville site too and can find no references since last November. Is it really happening?
Brownshoe Posted July 24, 2017 at 09:28 PM Share Posted July 24, 2017 at 09:28 PM According to the NSSF press release about Maxons: "Ranges that appear to meet the criteria for Four- or Five-star rating receive an on-site evaluation by NSSF staff. NSSF member ranges that meet a Three-star rating are recognized for being a part of the Star-Rating range family and are provided guidance to improve their facilities and achieve the higher two ratings." I didn't stay on the site long but didn't see that about making a visit. That's because it doesn't seem to be on the actual site — only the press release. Take it for what it's worth, but I tend to also believe it's self-reported. Why would the NSSF really expend the resources to do site visits, except maybe randomly?
