chicagoresident Posted January 8, 2018 at 04:53 AM Share Posted January 8, 2018 at 04:53 AM Anyone know what coming out? Any major announcements planned? What's everyone hoping for? The lack of leaks and hype that usually hit around this time makes me think the gun industry may be pretty quiet this year. Based on last year's show everyone geared up for the year of the silencer and that never happened.
TRJ Posted January 8, 2018 at 11:04 AM Share Posted January 8, 2018 at 11:04 AM When I was in Vegas last week I heard some guys at a restaurant discussing the security changes for the show. All vendors must leave their samples with a third party who will break down and neuter the sample then bring it into the show area. That has a bunch of vendors put off. They don't want to bring prototype guns and release them to the third party. I guess a bunch of vendors aren'the even going as a result. The show has changed from a manufacturer to dealer trade show into a big gun show. The manufacturer can more readily reach his dealers and gain press reviews these days by hosting their own event to showcase their wares without the competition at the next table. That creates a better experience for the people revising the samples, and can result in larger orders and better press.
bmyers Posted January 8, 2018 at 11:53 AM Share Posted January 8, 2018 at 11:53 AM Well Ruger has released the PCC and the Security 9. Glock has released more Gen 5 models and the Gen X. The Tavor 7 is supposed to be there. Olight and Surefire is supposed ot have new lights coming out. I think CZ is supposed to be releasing two new models of the Scorpion. C0untZer0 Posted January 8, 2018 at 12:43 PM Share Posted January 8, 2018 at 12:43 PM Its turned into a media circus. These YouTubers who think they're SOOOOO important, just swarm the place. They all shoot these really crappy videos with horrible audio, you can barely hear what they're saying. They're poorly organized and don't really add anything and no YouTuber video is substantially different from any other YouTuber's video, they go to a booth and the sales person there goes through their rehearsed spiel, the next YouTuber shows up and they go through the same spiel. I am interested in the Ruger carbine, I'd like to see how the Glock mag adapter does with the Korean 33 rd mags. Jeff Quinn did a review of it and I think he had 2 malfunction with the Glock mags and Blazzer ammo. I'm also hoping Beretta releases the .32 ACP conversion for the Pico - not sure if that is going to happen I'd like to see an auto-opening folding (out-the-side) knife that also has a thumb stud as a backup. There are only a few of those out there right now. I'd also be interested in a bullpup 12 gauge, but I'm very disappointed in Standard Manufacturing. Lou Frutuoso brought out a non-working plastic model of a bullpup shotgun in January 2016 and said the real gun would be released in a few months. Then Standard Manufacturing gets involved in all sorts of other things like bringing a 1911 and an AR to market. I don't really see how their ARs or 1911s are any better than any other ARs or 1911s out there, but whatever, Then at ShotShow 2017 Lou does the same thing, he brings out the same plastic model of a bullpup shotgun and says the real deal will be released in a few months. A year goes by and they spend time creating the six-barrel S333 "Volley Fire" and no bullpup shotgun. Its his business and he can do whatever he wants with his product line, but please don't go on camera on media day at ShotShow and bull**** me about vaporware you never really intend on creating. chicagoresident Posted January 11, 2018 at 03:38 AM Author Share Posted January 11, 2018 at 03:38 AM OK, that has me interested. I've always wanted an MP5, but refuse to spend H&K money for a neutered version of the real thing. And I'm not a huge fan of supporting the Turkish firearms industry right now. But I'd pay PSA prices. And if the MP5 becomes the pistol caliber carbine version of the AK that would be awesome.

C0untZer0 Posted January 11, 2018 at 01:01 PM Share Posted January 11, 2018 at 01:01 PM If they would put a 16" barrel on it I would be interested. Not that 9mm recoil is horrible but the roller-delayed blowback makes it more attractive. Ruger has a tungsten "dead weight" to mitigate recoil in their new carbine. jagt48 Posted January 11, 2018 at 09:20 PM Share Posted January 11, 2018 at 09:20 PM No thanks. I want the pistol to slap a brace on or to SBR! This has nothing to do with practicality and everything to do with fulfilling a childhood dream. Otherwise I'd probably be looking at the Scorpion carbine or even the Ruger you mentioned. I'm curious how the PTR MP5 clone is coming along. I am happy with my PTR 91 and would absolutely buy one (or two) if they were the same price as my GIR. I thought that I read somewhere that they said to watch out for SHOT 2018. It could be an expensive year...

The comments section has some good ideas on what the workaround might be.

chicagoresident Posted January 18, 2018 at 03:50 AM Author Share Posted January 18, 2018 at 03:50 AM It's like if a Keltec KSG and a Benelli M4 had a baby and they took it to a mohel named Tavor. It checks a lot of boxes, shorter barrel but still has choke threading, not box fed but holds a lot of shells, gas powered semi auto action, and a bullpup. SycamoreRuger Posted January 18, 2018 at 08:36 PM Share Posted January 18, 2018 at 08:36 PM Crosman DPMS full auto looks like cheap fun to be had in the back yard. PSA will stir up some doodoo with a MP5 clone. Under a G, sign me up. That's the first I heard of the full-auto Crosman, so I had to Google it. It looks like they're available for pre-order now at Pyramid Air and now I want one!https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Crosman_DPMS_SBR_Full_Auto_BB_Air_Rifle/4571 That's probably a more realistic purchase for me than any of the MP5 clones right now. As those prices come down it would be hard to justify a Ruger carbine if an MP5 clone is in the same price range. I'm really curious about what voodoo Franklin Armory has done to make that firearm legal, lots of interesting theories that almost all involve some kind of compromised performance. In any event, kudos to them for poking another stick in the eye of the NFA. I really want to know more about Walther's PPQ SC (subcompact). There have been a few leaks about it, but in light of the buzz around the Sig P365 they are losing out on a lot of potential buzz of their own by keeping so quiet. My P99C compact uses the same 15 round mags (with spacer) as the PPQ, so I see where they are going. But assuming that's the case they won't be able to shrink the width anywhere near the PPS or the Sig P365. Maybe they are waiting for all the Sig bugs to hit the P365 in the gun press, then release there's. Glock, M&p, Walther, and others have offered double stack compacts for a while. Why they aren't more popular I have no idea.
