The Arrogance of Power

Here we stand. The beginning of another Spring Session. A Session filled with new bills proposing to infringe our rights with no concern for the Constitution or the freedoms that once meant so much to those in power.

To the Founders, power meant the ability to shape a new nation, to foster liberty, to restrain oneself from assuming the kind of self-importance that ultimately leads to the destruction of states. Today, power is the new currency. The ability to subjugate, to impose one's will, to ignore those that protect our freedom.

And so it is with HB2254 Safe Gun Storage

In her continued effort to promote this bill, Representative Willis' seemingly endless arrogance is apparent. She cares little for the rights of her “subjects” and not at all for the Supreme Court of the United States who told us, in DC v Heller, that her bill is already unconstitutional. Hers is the kind of arrogance that can destroy states, that is destroying Illinois.

Join us in our opposition to not simply an individual bill, but to the growing arrogance in Springfield. Tell our legislators that these infringements will not stand. File witness slips against HB2254 today.

At the same time a bill meant to improve our freedom of choice, HB3016 Use Tax – Gun Safes, would reduce the state sales tax on gun safes and locks to 1% without requiring their purchase or use. This bill sets an example of how good law can be done. Those who believe firearms should be secured provide a means to ease the voluntary use of security measures. Ms. Willis would do well to study this approach.

Firearm Dealer License Certification Act

Chief Legal Counsel

Additionally, a public hearing is scheduled for Thurs. Feb. 20, at 1:30 PM in the Auditorium of the Howlett Building, 501 S. Second St., Springfield. Anyone wishing to speak at this hearing must submit their name and the name of the organizations they represent to ISP.Rulemaking@illinois.gov in advance of the hearing.
