Q: Can I vote for either party?

Illinois has open primaries, so you’ll be able to vote in any party’s election. You’ll need to declare your affiliation at the polling place to be given that party’s primary ballot.

With the general subject, thought I would leave this here.

GOP US Senate candidates generally support gun rights, oppose new restrictions

https://www.dailyher...ew-restrictions

...Illinois' Republican candidates for U.S. Senate have similar -- but not identical -- stances on gun ownership and gun-control legislation.

None advocate restricting ownership of assault-style weapons, but some believe gun rights should be limited if a person is mentally ill or potentially dangerous...

...Chlebek criticized current gun-control laws as ineffective. To reduce gun violence, he said, early firearm education should be mandatory in U.S. schools.

"Just as we provide early education to obtain the driving license ... we should mandate at the school level a gun certification through vigorous training programs," he said.

Chlebek said he didn't see the need for people to own firearms with detachable magazines. Chlebek also said he doesn't own guns.

Curran called the Constitution "sacred" and said most Americans should be allowed to own firearms and carry them concealed or openly.

But Curran said he would support legislation designed to get guns out of the hands of people who are mentally ill or "criminally dangerous."

To that end, Curran said he supports laws allowing the temporary removal of guns from people who may be dangerous to themselves or others.

Curran, who acknowledged he owns a handgun, also said he supports the federal rule banning bump stocks, devices attached to semi-automatic firearms that increase firing speed.

Hubbard, who also acknowledged owning firearms, said she supports background checks for prospective gun buyers as well as "reasonable" gun laws. She opposes creating new laws targeting specific firearms.

"We already have enough laws on the books when it comes to guns," she said. "Criminals do not follow laws, and we are only hurting law-abiding citizens when we create unnecessary laws that limit their right to protect themselves and their families."

Hubbard praised the armed security guard who, in December, fatally wounded a gunman inside a Texas church after the intruder killed two parishioners.

"A potential mass shooting was prevented by a law-abiding citizen who stepped up, shot back and saved lives," she said.

Marshall, a former Burr Ridge trustee who repeatedly has run for state and federal offices as both a Republican and a Democrat, said the U.S. doesn't need more gun laws. To curb gun violence, Marshall said, more armed people are needed in schools, churches and hospitals.

Teachers should be voluntarily trained to use firearms, Marshall said.

"(I) agree with President Trump and the leaders of the (National Rifle Association) that a good man with a gun is the solution to a bad man with gun," he said.

Marshall said he owns firearms and is a member of the NRA and the Illinois State Rifle Association.

Tarter supports enforcing existing gun laws.

"I am concerned that more federal gun control legislation could render law-abiding citizens more vulnerable to violence," he said.

Although he supports background checks for prospective firearms buyers, he said they've had "little-to-no effect" on homicide statistics.

To reduce violence, Tarter said he supports police crackdowns specifically designed to get guns off the streets, such as traffic stops in crime-ridden neighborhoods.

Tarter said he is an NRA member but doesn't own any guns....

Hubbard has some issues around a gun issue right now...

Hubbard changes story about whether she brought a gun to Senate debate

Updated
3/4/2020 6:30 PM
...After spawning controversy when she said she brought a handgun to a debate at a suburban high school last month, Republican Senate hopeful Peggy Hubbard shared a different version of that tale during a televised forum Tuesday.

Appearing on WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" with the four other GOP candidates for the Senate seat held by Democrat Dick Durbin, Hubbard told host Phil Ponce she never claimed to have brought the gun into the Feb. 13 forum at Hinsdale Central High School...

Ballotpedia lists the 5 candidates along with links to their respective sites.

Scroll down a little to find a listing of the candidates, Casey Chlebek, Mark Curran, Peggy Hubbard, Robert Marshall, Tom Tarter.

Click on a name, a new page pops with a description of the candidate.  The candidate's picture will be in the upper right corner of that new page.  The campaign site link is just below it.

So, he DOES support banning "assault weapons" (and pretty much everything else) then?

I do not think that any candidate seamlessly fits our desires.  I do not think that all of us are in complete agreement about every aspect of gun rights vs. control.

Here our major points are going to be about gun rights, but many of us have other concerns, e.g. right to life, borders, taxes, national defense, etc.

I live in IL 6 Congressional district. I am all in for Dr. Jay Kinzler. Sean Casten is a commie leftist chump, and has a very low IQ. Jay Kinzler is a patriot, I talked to him today in person 1 on 1 for a bit. Great guy, solid on 2A. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

I much prefer Jeannie Ives.  She proven her conservative chops in the ILGA and is a West

Let's stay with the facts.  We do not need to resort to name calling.  The man probably has a very IQ, considering that he has a masters degree in biochemical engineering from Dartmouth.

His stands on guns, abortion, immigration are the reasons that we should not vote for him.

I favor Jeanne Ives.  I will vote for the Republican candidate in the fall.

I've early voted and there were very few offices on the Republican ballot that had multiple cabndidates running, at least in my state districts. The US senate had the most.

Chlebek is a retired information technology worker who, as a Polish immigrant,
boasts heavy involvement in Illinois’ Polish community.
"...Chlebek criticized current gun-control laws as ineffective. To reduce gun violence, he said, early firearm education should be mandatory in U.S. schools.

"Tarter supports enforcing existing gun laws.
"I am concerned that more federal gun control legislation could render law-abiding citizens more vulnerable to violence," he said.

Peggy Hubbard     110,647        22.9
Hubbard is a Navy veteran, former police officer and retired IRS analyst from southern Illinois
who told the Chicago Sun-Times she was a Democrat until a police officer fatally shot unarmed
black teen Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014.
"Hubbard, who also acknowledged owning firearms, said she supports background checks for prospective gun buyers as well as "reasonable" gun laws. She opposes creating new laws targeting specific firearms.
"We already have enough laws on the books when it comes to guns," she said. "Criminals do not follow laws, and we are only hurting law-abiding citizens when we create unnecessary laws that limit their right to protect themselves and their families."

Robert Marshall      74,288         15.4
Marshall is a physician from suburban Burr Ridge and a perennial candidate who has
unsuccessfully run for multiple offices since the 1980s as both a Republican and Democrat.
He most recently ran for the Democratic nomination for Illinois governor in 2018
on a platform of wanting to, in part, split Illinois into three separate states.
"Marshall, a former Burr Ridge trustee who repeatedly has run for state and federal offices as both a Republican and a Democrat, said the U.S. doesn't need more gun laws.
Marshall said he owns firearms and is a member of the NRA and the Illinois State Rifle Association."

Mark Curran          200,353       41.5%   is the winner who will go up against Durban.

Curran is an attorney and the only candidate with previous experience in elected office,
as the Lake County Sheriff from 2006 - when he was elected as a Democrat,
before switching parties in 2008 - through 2018.
"Curran called the Constitution "sacred" and said most Americans should be allowed to own firearms and carry them concealed or openly.
But Curran said he would support legislation designed to get guns out of the hands of people who are mentally ill or "criminally dangerous."
To that end, Curran said he supports laws allowing the temporary removal of guns from people who may be dangerous to themselves or others.
Curran, who acknowledged he owns a handgun, also said he supports the federal rule banning bump stocks, devices attached to semi-automatic firearms that increase firing speed."

Just trying to get the info together in one place. From NBC and The Daily Herald. Both shed light on each other. Color emphasis is my own.

Maybe Hubbard can install a spine in Duckworth.

Jim Oberweis is a challenger for IL-14, ouch.....

https://www.chicagot...u3uu-story.html

In an increasingly contentious Republican congressional primary, state Sen. Sue Rezin filed a federal election complaint Thursday accusing state Sen. Jim Oberweis of employing a scheme to circumvent campaign finance rules.
At issue are both federal and state campaign finance laws. Federal laws are much more restrictive than state laws as far as who and how much money can be donated. As a result, state campaign funds generally cannot be converted into federal campaign funds.

Rezin, of Morris, and Oberweis, of Sugar Grove, are among seven Republicans seeking the GOP nomination in the west and northwest exurban 14th Congressional District and the right to challenge first-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood of Naperville in the fall.
In her complaint, Rezin contends that Oberweis violated severe restrictions on the use of his state campaign fund to benefit his federal campaign fund. Specifically, Rezin alleged Oberweis sought contributions from Republican candidates for his federal campaign fund in exchange for him giving a donation of greater value from his state fund.

I have been on a Tubi (free alternative to Netflix with limited commericials) binge lately and Sue Resin is in full rotation, going 1:1 with Bloomberg for commercial slots, so she is really dumping money into the primary.

Does anyone have a recommendation for judge on Illinois Supreme Court 5th judicial district? David Overstreet and John Barberis Jr. are on the ballot.  Also Appellite Court 5th district Mark Boie and Katherine Ruocco are on the ballot.

I got something in the mail about Cliff Lindemann who is running for state rep in the 115th on the republican primary ballot.  His website is clifflindemann.com.   I liked what I saw on the website regarding second amendment and other issues.  He is the chairman of the jefferson county board.
