Dear Training Counselors:
With states that acknowledge the individual right to self-protection at an all-time high, trainers have asked the NRA to develop a training course that meets the state requirements to apply for a permit and prepares students for the responsibility of carrying a concealed firearm. The NRA and the Education and Training Division has created the all-new NRA CCW course.
The NRA CCW course is modulated, so the Instructor can teach only the portions needed to meet the requirements of their state permitting process. Depending on those requirements, the course can vary in length from 1 to 16 hours and may (or may not) include a state-specific, non-NRA legal module and live-fire qualification.
The first NRA CCW courses will be held on May 4 and May 6 at the NRA Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas. These will be 8-hour Instructor courses open only to NRA Training Counselors who are also Pistol Instructors. There is no fee for this course, and all guns, holsters and training ammunition (UTM) are provided. You will be responsible for travel, lodging and meals. If you're interested in attending, email firstname.lastname@example.org; your subject line must read "NRA CCW Instructor." Spaces are limited and will fill quickly on a first-come, first-served basis.
There are plans to conduct the NRA CCW course at other locations in 2018. Once a solid base of Training Counselors become certified to conduct CCW courses, NRA Training will step aside so these Training Counselors can teach students and create more Instructors. When the Training Counselors begin conducting courses, NRA CCW Instructor candidates will have to be NRA Pistol Instructors who have successfully completed the Basic NRA CCW course.
