...Candidates running in the November election are listening to you.

Many of them have been meeting with the Sun-Times Editorial Board in endorsement interviews. They tell us about concerns you share when they knock on your doors to ask for your support.

They say youre very worried about gun violence. Your kids fear a mass shooting could happen at their schools. You worry, too, that a shooting could break out when your child is at a movie theater or even in church.

You worry because its happening all over the country....

...In the Illinois Legislature, a handful of GOP members are working with Democrats to produce bipartisan legislation aimed at reducing gun violence...

..Wed like to remind him that a fellow Republican, state Sen. Chris Nybo of Elmhurst, worked with a Democrat, state Sen. Don Harmon of Oak Park, to reach a compromise on the bill. They produced a bill that drew bipartisan support after Rauner vetoed a similar bill earlier this year. Democrats and Republicans came together to address the governors concerns. Thats the way the system is supposed to work.

Another Republican, Rep. Peter Breen of Lombard, voted for Nybos bill and worked with Democratic Rep. Kathleen Willis of Addison on another, the Firearms Restraining Order Act. It allows guns to be seized from people deemed dangers to themselves or others....

...Im the only Republican in the House endorsed, Breen boasted in his endorsement interview last week, adding that the NRA is very unhappy with him....

Self-serving pigs at the public trough interested only in retaining their places there. They will trample their constituents in order to get to the slop. I predict we will see many switch parties in five years or less. Illinois is practically California or New Jersey. The Republicans are fleeing to Arizona, Indiana and Florida -- wherever they can go to get out of this corrupt, crime ridden and depressed state.

Republicans are "compromising"? What does that mean exactly? What did they get in return for their support? Oh, nothing? That's not "compromise"...it's caving.

In a series of email conversations, state senator Tom Rooney basically told me that he knows gun control and assault weapons bans won't do anything to make our community safer...but he plans to support them because most residents of the district support them. I challenged him by asking why we need senators in that case. Why not just bring bills to the public and have us vote on every single one of them? The job of an elected official isn't do to what the mob demands. The job is to understand what the proposed legislation is...in detail...and understand what effect it will actually have...and vote accordingly.

This shouldn't be news to anyone. I've been talking about it all year.

Its over for gun rights in this state.

It is only once you've given up.

I don't buy the "sky is falling" bit.

No one thought we'd have our CCLs, but through the hard work and dedication of people on this site and others, it happened. Never underestimate the power of someone willing to put in effort and energy for a just cause.

The NRA gave Nybo, Curran and Olson, three suburban “Republicans “ , an F Rating.

They compromised with the Madigan Democrats thinking they will win Democrat votes.

Fools. Republicans compromise but Democrats never so.

Reaching across the aisle is a one way way street.

I hate to say it but the antigun lobby is better funded then the pro gun lobby simply due to who's behind them. The pharmaceutical industry (preventing a black label warning "may cause school shootings"), insurance (minimal mental health coverage), hospital/Doctor (mental health malpractice and having to patch up gunshot wounds for the uninsured), and school philanthropys like the Joyce and Annenberg Foundations would like to place all societal ills on guns and wash their hands of responsibility.

Spend all you want on the NRA, you're only putting a finger in the dike spilling money into gun confiscation.

I doubt it's a question of what the voter wants, but where a politician's money comes from.

Chris Nybo

Gun Violence Prevention PAC $8,162.00 + $2,500 That's what your 2nd ammendment is worth to a RINO.

https://www.illinoissunshine.org/search/?term=Gun%20Violence%20Prevention%20PAC&table_name=candidates&table_name=committees&table_name=officers&table_name=receipts&table_name=expenditures

What we as gun owners need to do is start pressuring other conservative/republican pacs to not donate to RINO's.

It really doesn't matter what we think or hope for. The Politicians have made up their minds. Pro gun does not poll well in the largest voting blocks of this state. Or at least that's the message that's coming out of them loud and clear. That's all they care about. They don't care about "our just cause", they care about keeping political power.

They are either gonna conform (what I'm sure they look at as regrettably conceding) to the anti gun agenda or be replaced by people that will. And the truth is that's probably gonna happen anyways because of other political factors not related to the gun rights issue. This state is going left like a bullet train into a brick wall. And the writing on that wall is pretty clear. You can choose to read it or not I guess. I know what it says though.

The way I heard it, the NRA asked them to compromise on specific things in that bill and change the wording to a more pro gun language in another part. They did exactly what the NRA asked them to do and then the NRA turned around and gave them an F rating anyways. Calling them out for being anti gun for doing exactly what the NRA asked them to do.

I'm not sure if that story is true or not, but the person who told me that is pretty educated on the topic. The way he tells it, the NRA shot themselves in the foot with the legislators in this state over doing that. As it was told to me "The NRA is dead in IL".

Now again, that may be true or not, but one thing is for sure, they are not reaching across the aisle for the NRA anymore. They crossed over into anti gun land for good.

Vote accordingly.

It's going so far to the left thanks to our tax funded schools indoctrinating our children in left wing political Doctrine, which is reinforced every time they turn on the so-called news, a television show, or the internet we're Facebook Google and the rest of them art directing left wing material to them. At the same time, they are importing new voters beholden to them. It's over.

I don't know about Olson but Nybo and Curran 'weren't available' for a discussion in their offices. However, while I was standing outside their office, they invited Moms Demand Action to come right in.

Next, it will be Antifa and BLM. Only concerned with reelection and contributions.

Easy to say, but what are we going to DO? put in a MORE ANTI democrat? As SENATORS? That's SIX years of pain.

Picket their offices and appearances weekly for 6 years?

Angry meeting confrontations every time they stick their noses out in public (like the dems are already doing - well, it WORKED with Flake, an elevator and 2 democrat women ).

Angry billboards? Trace all their $$ contributors and grassroots hammer the vulnerable ones? ("this business profited enough off of you to give $7,000 to the anti-freedom Senator xxxx")

You think I actually have any advice for how to fix a state full of anti gun liberals ? I was just responding to the guy who seemed to think those people where on the fence and trying to reach across the aisle. But they are clearly on the other side already.

My opinion is you can't do anything. Just vote Republican, have another vodka and keep pretending your opinion matters. And they will keep pretending they care about it. Love living in anti gun land or leave it. Its pretty clear we are politically out numbered and marginalized. What's anyone gonna do ? "Common sense" is coming.

It took an Obama to get us a Trump.

My local State Rep & Senator, both “R’s”, both voted to restrict my firearm Rights !

I will NOT vote for them again.

Yes that may mean a “D” takes their position ... at this point what difference does it make!

It took an Obama to get us a Trump !

And Trump is about to sign an executive order that will take away bump stocks. #ThanksObama!

This is more-or-less my argument against Rauner. If we continue to reward leftist Republicans with our votes, what will persuade them to change...? In my view, the more left they become...and the more we look the other way...the more they move even more left. What could be better for a Republican to have his conservative base locked up no matter what he does? Now he can go full commie in an attempt to take Democrat votes too! Right? Seems to me a that if that can be done, they'd be unbeatable and our society will go even further down the tubes.

WHEN will we take a stand? If not now, WHEN? The answer is never. Never ever. Even when they come for our guns, most gun owners will just hand them over without a fight. Watch.

PS- I take tons of abuse over this position on this board. I've even had members send me threatening PM. They're already preparing to blame me and others like me for JB's win. They can't blame Rauner's weakness and failure for the loss. No! LMFAO. They sound like the Democrats who blamed everyone but Hillary for the loss in 2016.

Rauner is a weak candidate. So is JB. So was Clinton, so was Trump.

So was Gore when he ran, and definitely Kerry... McCain too.

Being a weak candidate doesn't mean anything. There are lots of them. They're a dime a dozen. Use them to get what you need, until something better comes along.

No one is arguing that Rauner is the best option for gun rights. But he's the only option.
