mjw45 Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:09 PM Share Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:09 PM Has the ISP added Indiana to the list of substantially similar states lately and I missed it? Was just asked a question about this, again. Supposedly someone is doing an IL CCW class for Indiana residents and telling them that Illinois now accepts IN. I have dealt with this for years, instructors telling students that Indiana residents qualify for an IL CCW. Even had prospective students get mad at me when I tell them not to waste their money. I know the answer, just want to double check before I call bs on this. I would love to be wrong. Sent from my Z958 using Tapatalk
Molly B. Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:15 PM Share Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:15 PM Nothing has changed, Indiana residents still cannot apply for an IL CCL.

Chief Illiniwek Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:18 PM Share Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:18 PM The ISP web site currently lists only Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Virginia as being substantially similar.
mic6010 Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:18 PM Share Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:18 PM Not sure how up to date the ISP website is but they only have Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas and Virginia. on the list. Didn't Hawaii used to be on there as well ? What happened ?

Didn't Hawaii used to be on there as well ? What happened ? Hawaii, South Carolina, and New Mexico were removed earlier this year (in Feb). Their laws didn't change, but those states responded differently to the ISP's survey and the ISP decided to remove them from the substantially similar list. mjw45 Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:29 PM Author Share Posted August 16, 2017 at 03:29 PM Thanks. I had checked the FAQ, but never trust those to be up to date. The voice of Molly I trust. I will try to find out who is doing the class, not sure if I will have any luck. I hate to see people waste their money. kwc Posted August 16, 2017 at 04:54 PM Share Posted August 16, 2017 at 04:54 PM If you're free next Tuesday stop by the Federal Court House in Springfield and hear the state defend its nonresident licensing scheme first-hand. http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52501&p=1099500

Gamma Posted August 17, 2017 at 06:44 AM Share Posted August 17, 2017 at 06:44 AM Indiana should do an "enhanced" license like Idaho and a few other states have. A lot of Hoosiers get Florida or Utah permits to get better coverage, since their regular permit doesn't meet the "picky" states' requirements. A properly crafted "enhanced" permit could meet the requirements of all those picky states, including Illinois, just as Idaho's did for their neighboring Washington and Nevada. I have a feeling that should Indiana do that, that we'd see reform in Illinois. It's very clear that ISP and the state in general does NOT want to deal with issuing licenses to non-residents. At this point I don't hold out much hope for a federal reciprocity law. Nor do I have any faith in the courts at this point to enforce firearms civil rights. mjw45 Posted August 17, 2017 at 01:29 PM Author Share Posted August 17, 2017 at 01:29 PM Molly was informed as soon as I had more information. I tried calling the company yesterday, but got put on hold and had to get back to work. I am not posting the company name until I personally have verification that they are really doing this. Molly B. Posted August 17, 2017 at 08:15 PM Share Posted August 17, 2017 at 08:15 PM I just talked to a very nice gentleman at the Merrillville shop. They are located close to the IL border and are offering the IL CCL course to their IL customers, not their Indiana customers.
