Lame Duck House Agenda

With House elections every two years, many congressmen (on both sides) are afraid to vote for the agenda they really believe in. They become placeholders...always running for re-election...never wanting to anger any potential voter (even if it means angering their base, whom they view as locked up). They're more afraid of losing their jobs than they are that the agenda they were elected on won't get passed.

Well, now we have a lame duck House full of Republicans who are going to be losing their jobs. That give unprecedented freedom for them to vote how they like without any negative ramifications. They're already out.

What they need to do is pass a bunch of conservative laws...funding for the wall, the Hearing Protection Act, etc. Ram it through. Send it to the senate (where they're on 6 year terms and don't worry as much about their jobs...and where Republicans are making gains). Pass it. Send it to the White House.

Pelosi won't have the power to repeal any of it. Even if she can corral her cats to all voting to repeal the Hearing Protection Act, it'll never make it past the senate or the president's veto.

Do it.

McConnell is going to push for Border Wall funding during the lame duck session.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Wednesday that he will make an effort to get funding for President Trump’s border wall in the lame-duck session, adding that he had already spoken to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) earlier in the day.

“We’re certainly going to try help the president achieve what he’d like to do with the wall and border security,” McConnell told reporters in the Capitol.

The problem with lame duck stuff is that the outgoing Senate losers will vote party-line, and 2020 Senators are now on the clock for re-election.

But McConnell warned that he does not want a shutdown. His caucus may be adding seats after Tuesday’s election, but he is about to head into a difficult political phase for his members: A half-dozen Senate Republicans or more could face tough reelection campaigns in 2020, including McConnell, who loathes shutdowns.

Two years with the House, Senate and White House and what do gun owners have to show for it? What a waste of 2 years.

Exactly right. When Trump was inaugurated, I said that they'd better hurry because they only have two years. They squandered it.

On the other hand, Obamacare was passed by an outgoing Democratic congress in a lame duck session after they dragged their heels for two years.
