ChicagoRonin70 Posted October 12, 2017 at 06:28 PM Share Posted October 12, 2017 at 06:28 PM After much Internet searching, finagling, and many acquisitions, I finally have my ultimate Franken-Glock 29/30 SF just about complete. With this, I can shoot .22 LR (Advantage Arms conversion kit with standard-length and extended barrels), 9mm (EFK Fire Dragon extended conversion barrels), .357 SIG (Lone Wolf extended, ported conversion barrel), .40 S&W (KKM Precision standard-length conversion barrel), 9x25 Dillon (Lone Wolf extended, ported conversion barrel), 10mm (KKM extended barrel for cast lead rounds and extended, compensated barrel for barn-burner loadings), as well as .400 Cor-Bon (Lone Wolf standard-length conversion barrel) and .45 ACP/.45 Super/.460 Rowland® (multi-caliber capable .460 Rowland conversion kit). I run these various barrel conversions with 15-, 17-, and 21-pound tungsten recoil spring guide rod assemblies from Glock Store, or a LaserMax 17-pound guide rod red laser, along with a Crimson Trace LightGuard modified to fit on a 29/30SF frame. The only caliber conversion that I have not been able to track down, and I am still waiting to hear back from a few places, is a .40 Super barrel conversion for the G30 slide. Even though I have seen several instances on the Internet, including videos, where people have that very conversion barrel in various configurations, it seems that no one makes it anymore. I've already tried KKM and Lone Wolf, who stopped making it a few years ago and don't seem to be inclined to make it again. EFK Fire Dragon used to, and I have talked to the woman who is in charge of that to see if they either have a back-stock one sitting around gathering dust, or if they can custom make me one the way they did with my 9mm conversion barrels for the G29SF, so there is hope. I'll be disappointed if I can't find one, but I suppose I could live without the .40 Super, since I do have every other possible caliber to shoot out of it if I so desire. Using .45 and 9mm to practice, not to mention .22 LR, definitely saves me money on range ammunition, but having numerous caliber options for specific purposes makes this a worthwhile project. Plus, I am going to set up the 30SF frame and a spare slide to use a reset trigger and laser trainer bullet for all the dry fire practice I could need, so even if I can't get to the range or the ammo stock is running low, I can still keep my muscle memory and training from getting rusty. I give you the. . . FRANKEN-GLOCK ULTIMO!

ChicagoRonin70 Posted October 12, 2017 at 08:28 PM Author Share Posted October 12, 2017 at 08:28 PM That is cool! How much did that run you? Less than 10 Glocks worth, to be sure, for the frame, slides, barrels, and recoil/guide rods. However, I am well over $5K into my entire ultimate modular Glock project, if you count all of the accessories and modifications that I've got that I use along with this. The main advantage, I have found, is that because I'm running everything off of one platform, so I don't have to adjust to anything different like the slide lock, the trigger, how the firearm fits in my hand, it reinforces the muscle memory for using the firearm in the same way, regardless of what kind of ammunition I am using. I've gotten so used to it that I can shoot accurately with any of these different calibers or setups, with minimal adjustment to "get used" to it, as I would if I were using separate handguns even if they were all Glocks. ChicagoRonin70 Posted October 12, 2017 at 08:35 PM Author Share Posted October 12, 2017 at 08:35 PM Incidentally, if anyone knows of any other G29/30 conversion barrels or kits for calibers that I don't have (.41 AE, the above-mentioned .40 Super, .22 TCM—which would be amazing, et cetera), or better yet has one they are willing to sell me, I would buy the H ell out of any that come to my attention, and give a finder's fee to the person who put me on to it. My goal is to have a firearm that I can show up anywhere with and have a good chance of being able to "borrow" ammunition, and with simple field-strip switches be able to shoot it out of this. DD123 Posted October 12, 2017 at 09:18 PM Share Posted October 12, 2017 at 09:18 PM I don't see a 38 super listed. That might be an interesting one if it's possible to get. This is definitely one of the most unique things I've ever seen next to that multi cal survival rifle I saw several months ago.
ChicagoRonin70 Posted October 12, 2017 at 11:31 PM Author Share Posted October 12, 2017 at 11:31 PM That's pretty slick roninSlick but kinda goofy. Enjoy, Ronin! Hey, don't you be mocking my modular monster pistol. I just show up at the range with my case and my portfolio o' barrels, and I can bum ammo off of anyone there. Hah! I don't see a 38 super listed. That might be an interesting one if it's possible to get. This is definitely one of the most unique things I've ever seen next to that multi cal survival rifle I saw several months ago. That is also one option, but again, no one makes a .38 Super for a G29 these days, just like there are no .40 Super conversions available for the G30. It would need to be a custom chambering, which from what I understand would run about $400, just like the .40 Super. I guess if I get some extra stupid money, I might just throw dollars at some custom barrel maker and get those in my quiver as well. That does give me an idea, though. The .38 Super is the same rim diameter and case width as the .38 ACP; in fact, it is the exact same dimensions in length, as well. The .38 ACP is just not loaded as hot as the .38 Super So, theoretically, I could fire .38 ACP out of a .38 Super barrel, as well. That would give me two more calibers to shoot out of my Franken-Glock. I also have seen 9×23 Winchester conversion barrels reamed out of 9mm conversion barrels for a G20, so I don't see why that couldn't be done for a G29, as well. Or, I could just go the completely custom route and have one made for that, as well. I think I need to win the lottery at some point to pay for all of this. Hah! ChicagoRonin70 Posted October 13, 2017 at 04:48 AM Author Share Posted October 13, 2017 at 04:48 AM UPDATE: I just found this online . . . Shooting 38 auto out of a 38 super barrel is the same thing as shooting .223 remington out of a 5.56x45 Nato or a 38 special out of a .357 magnum . It can be done just don't reverse it. No 5.56 out of a .223, no .357 out of a 38 special and no 38 super out of a 38 auto. . . . so I guess I will have to add the .38 Super barrel to my list of wants, because multi-caliber capable barrels are things of excellent wonder! I wonder what weight spring/guide rod I will have to get to shoot this? I have a 15-pound, but I wonder if .38 ACP would cycle with that. Probably just barely, and I would have to use at least 124 grain rounds, the way I need to with the 9mm conversion and the 15-pound spring. ChicagoRonin70 Posted October 14, 2017 at 09:02 PM Author Share Posted October 14, 2017 at 09:02 PM Just impresive! When the zombie apocalypse happens your all set. Not quite. I am sorely disappointed that a Mech-Tech Glock carbine conversion upper is not made for Glock 29/30s. Which means I'm going to have to get myself a G40 for long-range 10mm employment, and buy a Mech-Tech for that, as well. Of course, once AWBs are finally dead and buried, I will need an AR-15 for zombie dispatching, too.
ChicagoRonin70 Posted December 28, 2017 at 09:09 AM Author Share Posted December 28, 2017 at 09:09 AM Hah! I shall be receiving my duplicate G29SF in a few days to complete the frame/slide additions to this setup, so I can finally dedicate a reset trigger/laser cartridge training pistol cobbled out of a 30SF frame and a 29SF slide! My cat is going to get a H ell of a workout on a daily basis chasing laser flashes around the house when I train indoors!

ChicagoRonin70 Posted December 29, 2017 at 07:12 AM Author Share Posted December 29, 2017 at 07:12 AM Can you get a 50 GI top end for the 29/30 frame? Nothing for that caliber is commercially available for a G30 29/30 frame, as far as I have been able to tell. Guncrafter Industries sells 20/21 or 40/41 conversion kits, but not for the 29/30. A .50 GI barrel will not fit in a G30 slide, either. I did talk to a custom gunmaker about making a one-off custom conversion for my 29/30 frame and was told it would cost me between $1,500–$2,000 to have the slide and barrel CNCed. Then, I would need to get magazines from GI for the .50 ammo. Alas, not worth it, but it would be fun to have if I had money to burn.

I don't believe there is a Roni or a Micro Roni made for a G29/30 platform, so I can't really speak on them in terms of their functionality. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot one in any caliber/model, whereas I have the Mech-Tech. I also don't want to deal with any potential NFA issues that the Roni/Micro Roni ostensibly has according to the authority of thuh Internetz.
