Armed Black protestors march in Hartford’s North End to advocate for Black gun ownership

A group of armed Black and brown gun owners marched on Albany Avenue in Hartford Saturday morning, asserting their right to bear arms to protect their communities and their families in a society they said devalues Black lives and persecutes Black people who legally own guns.

About 40 to 50 people, including white allies, marched east from Woodland Street to Main Street in a loud but peaceful hourlong rally that drew supportive honks, shouts and upraised fists from motorists and residents of the predominantly Black North End thoroughfare.

Protestors of color walked in the street as four police cars and four police bicycles kept traffic at bay. White allies walked on the sidewalks, giving the street to the people whose neighborhood it was.
...
“Now it is time to come together and observe our Second Amendment rights,” (event organizer) Lewis said.
...
“We have our faith. We have our people. We have our guns. America does not want us here and does not care for us. We march. We fight. We die. That is the only thing left for us to do in this land of the free and home of the brave.”

The Self Defense Brigade was joined by Black Lives Matter 860, Power Up Manchester, the Huey P. Newton Gun Club – named after the cofounder of the Black Panther Party – and unaffiliated gun owners and supporters.
...
“All too often, people in the inner city are afraid to apply for a permit. … Know the law. Understand your right to defend yourself.”

(Cassandra X) emphasized, though, in a pre-march speech, that Black people have to rely on themselves.

If there’s a color in front of something, it’s racist.

“Booo-hooo, America doesn’t care about us... blah blah blah...”

They just found out they have a second amendment??

Wow, you read that much differently than I did.

ETA And yes, people who have been traditionally outside the gun community are often just discovering the true meaning of the Second Amendment and are just starting to embrace it as their own.

I think most people are just getting sick and tired of everything being seen through the filter of race.

We're also sick of hearing the leftist nonsense that "diversity is strength". Diversity is NOT a strength and is actually a weakness.

Instead of being a hyphenated American and self-segregating, we need to ALL be Americans and be unified, I don't care what race or color you are.

The whole "diversity" lie is just another tactic left uses to divide us.

Yet we encourage women to get involved in the shooting sports, and youth. It's really no different. The more of "us" that come together as gun owners united in protecting the Second Amendment, the more diverse that "us" becomes and the stronger we all become.

The alternative would be to let them keep us divided on superficial measures.

Well, there's that Ronald Regan thing in California too but the point is to find our common ground, not focus on our differences.

That was absolutely horrible legislation, but please show me where it states "This law only applies to black people"....

I would point to the intent of the law if doing so would not take us off the topic of this thread.

Diversity is not a strength...nor is it a GOAL....Its a RESULT**...

If one insists on being 'hyphenated'...they you are the problem says "Americans"..

**That result coming from the policies and culture of this country...

How is steel made? You add various ingredients (carbon, titanium, nickel, cobalt, etc.) to get the TYPE of steel desired for different purposes. In other words, you "diversify" the ingredients to achieve the product you want.

What about plywood? Or "LVLs" (laminated veneer lumber)? Or OSB (oriented strand board)?

Yes, "diversity" MAY cause a weakness, esp. if it is in an inappropriate location. But with gun ownership and the Second Amendment as our "glue", the more of us from different backgrounds that work for the same goal does make us stronger.
