What is the differences between Magpul gen 2 and gen 3 mags?

I have a pair of windowless gen 3 PMAGs. I got them from Midway right before the SHTF. Only difference is I guess they're compatible with H&K 416s and whatnot. No real difference as far as an AR.

The mags actually say "PMAG M3" and "GEN3 M3" on one side. So its not hard to miss. Look at the floorplate. If its not one large floorplate but kinda slims down toward the front of the mag then its a Gen3.

All of my G2s came with dust covers...well the ones I bought before the SHTF. I got some FDE windowed G2s from DSGArms that I had backordered and they didn't have dust covers. I don't think Magpul is even producing windowed G3s, they've gotta be running at 100% capacity to pump out as many G2s as possible before that crap goes into effect and they can't afford to retool even one line. So all of us who have windowed Gen3s or even windowless ones backordered, we're gonna be waiting a while.

There are di

The G2 doesn't come with a dust cover, either.

There are different variations within each Generation. I think the reason you are seeing so many of the GEN2 (MOE) without the covers is that PMAG has realized they can save money and make them faster by not including them with the magazines and they still sell just as many, as evidenced by their 1 million backorder. Most of the GEN 2 magazines made before January 2013 have the covers. The MOEs without the covers began flooding the market in January after the SHTF.

The packaging is as follows.

Yea you can buy dust covers if you really want them. I ordered 2 dozen a week ago from RAM Armory. They showed black in stock, placed an order for 4 packs of 3 black dust covers (MAG216-BLK) and a pair of 3 packs in FDE (MAG216-FDE). They tried screwing with me saying the black are on BO and they'd be happy to replace them with FDE. I proceeded to tell them to screw off. Surprise surprise, I get an email later that day saying "we found all of the Magpul items, now processing your order." (Still processing....)
