Gun owners frustrated with FOID application backlog

Did you see the Feb. 2 dateline on the article? COVID and the lack of enthusiasm on the part of the Illinois court system have really jammed this one up. ISRA (in combination with SAF maybe?) have also filed a Federal lawsuit since then regarding the infringement of folks waiting months for their FOID. That also has not yet seen a court date.

 

It would be cruel sarcasm if HB1966 were to pass in the lame duck session in the face of this constitutional (and bureaucratic) atrocity. I will definitely be watching these pages for updates and contacting congressmen.

That may be part of the reason our "illustrious governor", Jabba the Hutt, has been so partial to all these restrictions and lockdowns. The FOID service people probably aren't considered "essential" and aren't at work anyway.

Number 1....your living in Illinois 2.......You have a democatic controled state.3 as Chicago and cook county goes.so goes the state 4 you have and most likely will have for the future due to 1-2 & 3..There are no options for you if you continue to live in Illinois.After they take the White House.We all may be in the same boat.How can any sane human think things can ever get better ?Were on the S___ list.

I added emphasis. Are they autonomous, and make yea or nay decisions on their own without some type of approval?

Description of Duties/Essential Functions Benefits Supplemental Questions

Under general supervision, reviews, analyzes and interprets criminal history entries (referred to as criminal history "hits") received from federal, state, and in-house databases to assess an applicant's Firearms Owners Identification (FOID) card and/or concealed carry permit eligibility; researches and interprets federal, out-of-state, and State of Illinois statutes and applies statutes in determining if criminal history hits meet firearms prohibiting criteria. Contacts external entities (e.g., police departments, courts, governmental agencies) to research open arrests and dispositions, probations, and conditional discharges. Independently makes decisions to approve, deny or revoke FOID cards and/or concealed carry permits in compliance with federal and state laws. Reviews mental health history "entries" (referred to as mental health history "hits") from the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) FOID reporting system and determines if mental health history hits meet federal, out-of-state, or State of Illinois firearms mental health prohibiting criteria. Documents case decisions and findings regarding firearms privileges. Responds to federal and/or other state's background information inquiries, and to general FOID card and concealed carry permit eligibility inquiries. Provides guidance and assistance to Firearms Eligibility Analyst Trainees and other less experienced staff in the processing of FOID card applications and/or concealed carry permits.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires successful completion of the Firearms Eligibility Analyst Trainee Program, or another approved Illinois State Police training program. Requires current Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) Less Than Full Access Certification and the ability to maintain the prescribed LEADS certification.
