This year there has been a huge amount of violent crime on public transportation!  Is there any hope of expanding concealed carry to public transportation? These people are sitting ducks for violent thugs. I feel especially sorry for all the women victims. People are basically risking their lives when they take a bus or an L train. There are no Security guards or Police on board! What is Mayor Lightfoot doing about this?

Quite simply the libs don't want us to own guns, yet alone carry them.having said that I imagine they would argue hazardous due to backstop concerns and close quarters.I'll walk downtown before I get on the red line, and I will drop off and pick up anybody in my family before they ride.last time I was at a downtown stop late at night,it was like something out of escape from n.y. or the warriors.

My mother (age 92) was telling me that she used to ride the "L" from her home in Oak Park to her job downtown when she was in her 20's.  On Fridays she and her girlfriends would catch dinner and a show downtown.  She would then take the "L" back home late at night.  Never had any problems or heard of any.  These days she said a woman would be nuts to do that.

The notion of restoring 2A RIGHTS to those most in need of protection - namely those on the gang-infested mass transit system - is doomed to failure from the start for the obvious reasons that it makes sense and this IS Illinois - where that whirring sound you hear in Springpatch is Lincoln spinning in his grave.

I've talked in person to several of the "lib" politicians in the city who aren't anti-gun at all. Don't make assumptions that shut down any hope for progress. Building coalitions takes work and its' a hurdle to overcome for sure, but most of us didn't expect us to ever have concealed carry at all.

There is no place on the CTA that is anything like the Warriors. Show me where you're talking about. Hyperbole doesn't help either.

It's a shame they won't speak up for fear of losing their jobs. Being openly pro gun in Chicago is a political death sentence.

Imagine if that woman was your wife or daughter who got molested on the L train? What a messed up society we live in.

Yes, currently it is. Hopefully that will change in the future. They need our support to be able to though.

I'll add that I know many females and non-male individuals that I teach self-protection who ride public transportation, many of them are of groups that do not trust the police due to extensive experience of having their reports of being victimized being dismissed out of hand, and ALL of them have more than one incident where they were sexually assaulted or victimized in some way on public transportation.

For ever incident that is reported, I would conservatively say that 6 to 8 are not.

CTA train incidents up 104% over 5 years

The get-together comes as just-released data from the city shows crime on CTA trains and platforms is up 104% since 2015 with last year showing a 5% increase. The increases are particularly troubling as the CTA has reported decreasing ridership in recent years.

This has always been the case. Many of the cops don't really care and would rather downgrade crime, which has happened with great regularity. I'd argue that reporting is getting more accurate with more of the out-of-towners coming in and demanding that things be held to account with the CPD.

If there's only 6-8 cases happening for every one reported, that's a big improvement over how things used to be.

I said conservatively. I'm going by a sample selection that includes the people who I have taught risk and harm avoidance strategies that allow them to avoid many potential assault and molestation instances and situations that they might otherwise be subjected to.

My view has been that the prohibition on public transportation is a form of discrimination against people that cannot afford to purchase their own transportation.  Similar to realtors that do not sell homes to certain groups of people in certain areas.  The clear lesson is that "gun free zones" are "criminal activity zones".  Until the millionaire politicians have to live like the rest of us without armed bodyguards, things will not change.

but most of us didn't expect us to ever have concealed carry at all.

You are missing an important point.
There was no working together to overcome any obstacle, there was no coalition with other legislators nor governing committees.
A woman had to get beaten to within an inch of her life in a state that doesn't want anyone but the lawless armed, and go to court, and fight those folks who you think can unite, and win..
By court order, we got CC.
The same will likely have to happen again. Someone will have to get beaten just short of being killed on a train or bus, and then be willing to go to court, for years, stick it out, and maybe or maybe not win, go through appeals, etc, etc, before you or I will see them give up CC on public transport.

Maybe this guy could be the case that gets the ban on public transportation ccw removed. I'm sure he'd be glad to get a ton of money from the city to buy replacements for the equipment that got ruined in the attack.

So Crimesha says that if the victim can’t identify the attackers and help in that regard, she won’t touch the case.
Forget about the video, which all the powers that be are always touting during the pressers!
32k cameras and that’s so we can get video of the attackers and make it safer to ride.

I’ll leave what I think should be done with animals like this.
No consequences means no end in sight. Someone or somebodies are going to have to step forward/up and take one for the team!

What's going to end up happening here is a Bernie Goetz-type incident, and one hopes that it turns out not to be a racist scumbag like Goetz ended up being.

^^^^^ I was trying not to be full blown vigilante........
But I’m thinking along those lines too
Someone is going to make a decision to carry just for the sole purpose of NOT being the next victim and it’s going to be very interesting!

Hhmm?  Somebody with make-up or "special effects" experience might try to put a fake arm in a jacket sleeve with the hand in the coat pocket.  Then the real arm could be hidden underneath the jacket with the hand resting on the gun's grip - JIC.

Or, if they look like a "senior citizen", they can be using one of those adjustable aluminum canes that has had a piece of steel rebar inserted into the insides.

I like the cane with the truss rod made of 0.250" music wire. YMMV.  TSA approved.
