Gator4838 Posted November 19, 2019 at 06:07 PM Share Posted November 19, 2019 at 06:07 PM I'm a leather guy,I like the look, the smell,I just love it.on the other hand,I like the stability and retention of kydex holsters.I am not a i.w.b.guy,I'm a o.w.b.guy.I have a couple leather ones that collapse on me a bit after I draw, which is a bit of a pain in the the butt, when re-holstering at 3 o'clock.any thoughts? Lou Posted November 19, 2019 at 06:17 PM Share Posted November 19, 2019 at 06:17 PM I like leather for OWB and kydex for IWB. Out of an entire box of holsters I’ve tried over the years my favorite is a Safariland 518. It a leather OWB paddle with a thumb break. Not cheap but quality rarely is. carry Posted November 19, 2019 at 06:38 PM Share Posted November 19, 2019 at 06:38 PM Horsehide vs Cowhide, it’s tougher and retains its shape better (still good to reinforce the holster mouth with an extra piece of hide).

mrmagloo Posted November 19, 2019 at 07:20 PM Share Posted November 19, 2019 at 07:20 PM I've got 4 VMII's for CCW and have never looked back. My favorite has sharkskin trim, and it's stunning. I've literally got a laundry basket full of all sorts of lessor holsters I've tried, in leather, kydex, etc, and that's where they will stay. Bitter Clinger Posted November 19, 2019 at 08:15 PM Share Posted November 19, 2019 at 08:15 PM I have both and I like 100% Kydex all the way.It never fatigues and retains it's shape. I like the way the gun clicks into place and is totally secure.
luckydawg13 Posted November 19, 2019 at 09:53 PM Share Posted November 19, 2019 at 09:53 PM With a good leather holster it does click if left in a hot car in the summer time it will not loose its shape or squeak while you're walking that is why i switched
StuckInIllinois Posted November 19, 2019 at 10:55 PM Share Posted November 19, 2019 at 10:55 PM Have a TTGunleather Slim XC and Hanks 1.75 belt all set for my CZ75 Compact. Gator4838 Posted November 19, 2019 at 11:06 PM Author Share Posted November 19, 2019 at 11:06 PM I have a Hank's belt and worth every penny.it's a thick piece of leather, but has bend, and will not stand up on its own,but I carry sub-compact to compact pistols owb without sagging.if you really search and look at some of the small batch,or custom makers in leather holsters, there are some true works of art. MagSlap Posted November 21, 2019 at 03:49 AM Share Posted November 21, 2019 at 03:49 AM 95% of my holsters are leather...Of the kydex holsters..I rarely ever use em.
drumgod Posted November 21, 2019 at 01:32 PM Share Posted November 21, 2019 at 01:32 PM 95% of my holsters are leather also but I only use the kydex ones now. Different strokes for different folks I guess. For me, leather was like sticking a squeaky stack of floor mats down my pants. I have a few $100 leather holsters and none of them give me the comfort, ajustability and ease of use and maintenance that kydex does... Just make sure it's is blocked correctly or it will wear your finish pretty badly. e.g. The ejection port should not molded as a source of retention. KZ1000 Posted November 21, 2019 at 06:11 PM Share Posted November 21, 2019 at 06:11 PM I have an IWB (english bridal leather?) I believe, purchased from holsterpro.com. They are handmade by the owner I think. Have to wait about 4 weeks. Had it 5yrs and no complaints. It does collapse ever so slightly IWB after drawing, but I dont find it to be a problem. I also have one from him for cargo pocket carry, simple and the square pc of leather attached to the holster blocks the gun from printing. Just like it says on Kramer leathers site, these holsters will most likely outlast the user.
WitchDoctor Posted November 21, 2019 at 08:34 PM Share Posted November 21, 2019 at 08:34 PM Raven concealment Kydex fan here. Fits like a glove always. Does not need any special care and rides in the same place on my hip always. OWB too except for the 43 which lives in my pocket.

incoming Posted November 21, 2019 at 10:15 PM Share Posted November 21, 2019 at 10:15 PM IWB leather holsters made inside out. The finished side of the leather on the inside. The gun draws fast and smooth. Its also easy on the handguns finish. The rough unfinished outside of the holster sticks to your pants and does not move around. The holster is so stable, only one belt loop is needed. Always use leather belt loops which are sewn or have lift the dot snaps. The mouth of the holster is reinforced with a steel band sewn between the leather, this makes reholstering easy. You can bend the steel to adjust the level of retention you are comfortable with. This works for me. I like the way the holster is easy on the weapons finish. Spare me that crap about a gun is a tool. If you like using sand paper kydex and you think the worn out finish look means your gun looks cool or like you are an experienced operator then have at it. I have been a Mechanic for 40 years in several different fields and all of my tools look almost new. I take care of them and like my weapons, they look good.Any custom maker can make you this or you can buy a Andrews "Macdaniel" from Sam Andrews in Florida

DD123 Posted November 22, 2019 at 02:14 PM Share Posted November 22, 2019 at 02:14 PM I generally prefer all kydex because they won't absorb sweat, and you don't have to worry about dealing with a holster that deforms due to your sweat and body heat. They can deform in uncontrollable ways where it deforms and part of the leather comes to a point where it can accidentally interfere with the trigger during reholstering. If I do go with some form of leather, it's usually a hybrid kydex holster where the leather is a backer to rest against your skin, but what actually holds the gun is kydex. Crossbreed is one example. Lately for me it's just been 100% kydex.
Gator4838 Posted November 22, 2019 at 02:57 PM Author Share Posted November 22, 2019 at 02:57 PM It seems to me,my kydex also completely covers the trigger guard, while even after firmly holstering my gun in leather, the trigger itself might not be exposed, but you notice a small gap above the trigger, and a bit of trigger guard is visible.normally not a big deal, but I'm conscious that I'm not getting positive retention, and did I holster it firmly enough to cover the trigger 100%.yea,I know, keep your finger off the trigger, problem solved.what say you? Crossbreed is one example. Lately for me it's just been 100% kydex. Lately it's been all kydex for me... second choice being full molded leather. With a hybrid, there are times when the retention provided by your belt just isn't available. How embarrassing would it be to have your loaded gun slide into the next stall...
