After several drive-by shootings, Jackson, MS mayor bans open carry, citing "Many of these killings could have been avoided if we had state law that enabled us to better control the presence of firearms on our streets.” said Lumumba. “Prior to the open carry law when Jackson officers saw a gun in plain view it gave them the probable cause to cease the weapon and determine whether it was an illegal weapon or not. The open carry law not only provides protection to individuals who are armed with illegal weapons, it creates an atmosphere of fear and intimidation in the community. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the fact that the open carry law has led an increase in gun violence into our communities.

If you read the linked stories within that story, you find multiple drive-by shootings. Those aren't 'old west' gunfights on the streets that are difficult for the police to determine who the bad guys are. It's cowards shooting up buildings. Never let a crisis go to waste...

It's "seize", not cease, you victim of the second worst school system in the country. (Why Johnny can't read....in one word--->Mississippi)

Journalism in Mississippi must not be a high pay job. Why don't you go be a greeter at wallyworld? You made the mayor look stupid, son.

Also, when you go back to remedial grade school, ask the teacher nicely to explain the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights to you. Then you could have challenged the mayor on this unethical EO ban. But that's what professionals do....

There has to be a better way to fight the gang related shootings...how about more aggressive police patrolling? Interventions? Community involvement? Keep criminals in jail a lot longer instead of letting them out immediately after arrest? what'cha think?
