Saw this on another forum. This was mailed to a registered Democrat in Tennessee, the underlined part was taken as a threat. It had the opposite effect, and she chose to #walkaway instead.

The underlined part seems, to me, more like a poorly worded explanation as to why the letter was sent than a threat. An indication that public records were used to compile the mailing list.

It was a completely unnecessary line as that point had already been made. It's clearly meant to intimidate. "We know you're a Democrat, and we not only expect you to vote but we'll know if you didn't and we're going to follow up after the election".

Remember, The Party has eyes everywhere!

Like I said, poorly worded.

Not everything is evil or meant as intimidation.

Sometimes, it's just dumb.

The letter is well written thus the author of this letter is getting across what he intended. He is going to follow up making sure the recipient voted the party line.

That was clearly intimidation.

This is a good thing, it shows the tinfoil hat is properly sheilding you.

I've received the same thing from the Republican Party, almost verbatim.

It isn't about intimidation, but rather pressuring party line voters to pull for the team.

The letter is intimidation only to those whose choose to allow themselves to be intimidated.

There are about 3.5 million registered voters in Tennessee.  About 3.9 million voted there in 2016.

I could not find the number of registered Democrats in that state, but it must be well over a million.

https://sos.tn.gov/e...statistics-year

That is a lot of people to contact.

One can simply refuse to answer a phone call, hang up, or ignore an email or letter.

I am a registered Republican, but I ignore their phone calls.

They may know if you voted, but you do not have to tell any party how you voted.

You can be registered in one party and vote for candidates from other parties during a general election.

A buddies Mother was big into the Chicago Democratic Machine in the 80's and 70's. She worked for a lot of campaigns and somehow they always knew who didn't vote for all of the ticket candidates and subsequently those people would end up without a new garbage can, or the city code inspector paying extra close attention.

Chicago aldermen used to stand outside the polling place.  My aunt used to go up to her alderman and talk to him before she went in to vote. She wanted to make sure that he knew she voted.

A bit off topic, but I received this text today:

"Hey Dorothy, this is Marina! On Monday you can join Senator Bernie Sanders and the Working Families Party to get out the vote for Randy #Ironstache Bryce at 1:15pm in Kenosha. RSVP here: http://bit.ly/RandyBernie - Will you join us?"

MY HEARTFELT REPLY:

On topic:

I spent many years in politics, working for both parties, and I can emphatically tell you that that is indeed meant as a threat. An empty threat, but a threat none the less designed to scare people into voting their way.

That type of literature is designed for the average voter who is not very sophisticated and can be manipulated by means of misinformation, intimidation, or scare tactics.

Back in the day, there used to be checkers from the Democratic Party at every polling place during primary elections. They were seated right at the judges table, and as you announced to the judges which ballot you were there to take, they were ready to run through your name on the voter list with either a red or a blue pencil. Three guesses as to what color didn't get garbage cans or tree trimming service?

EDIT: I meant to quote Patriots & Tyrants with that one.

It was also the best time to talk to your alderman about fixing potholes or cracks in the sidewalk

I see it differently.  I think it is a veiled, passive aggressive threat, that can USE the next part as explaination, about being contacted about their voting experience.

Forgot the rest of the sentence "...because our cronies won't get enriched at your expense."
