I can't think of anyone worse for the future of gun rights in Illinois than Durbin.

Not JUST gun rights. OMFG.

That would be the nail in the coffin to my IL residency

I'd be squeezing through the door with you!
I'm not opening the door or shutting it behind me, I'm busting through it and leaving it open for everyone. I just ask for the last person through to brick it up and lock the rest in.

I used to think I only wanted to move somewhere that had my favorite recreational activities. Morels and whitetails, along with all seasons of weather.

Now I am starting to reevaluate that thought. Where would I want to be when the liberals try to take over?

If and when states start seceding, I want to be in the right one already and not figuring out how to get in one that is/has. TX is a good bet to start with.

The Conservatives vs the Liberals, the new aged Red Coats vs Blue Coats.

Perhaps next time you could post less details and a possible link

All the information you posted is too much to comprehend SHEESH

Lisa Madigan says she is still keeping her options open. Maybe she needs to put together a listening tour.

If only we had a Democratic governor then this silly budget fiasco would have been settled in a non partisan fashion (as in no opposition remaining) and a bill passed with the appropriate revenue enhancements a long time ago.

That is supposed to be purple right?!

Absolutely I agree if we had a pawn to Madigan, ie: Dmocrat, we would have a shiiting budget passed already. Mike Madigan wants all the spending but none of the funding. I say no to any budget that is not balanced first and foremost. I also say no to any budget that would raise taxes at all, we already have the highest in the nation. We need to CUT spending period. $127 billion in debt counting state pensions. This debt excludes chicago and chicago pensions which are probably even with Illinois. We have got to CUT spending. We NEED austerity.

I'm glad Rauner is playing hard ball with Crooked Madigan. No to any budget that isn't balanced. No to any budget that raises taxes. Period.

My reaction was that if Durbin is being encouraged to run for Governor, it's because Mike has decided it's time for his daughter to be in the Senate.

CGS, it sounds purple but that is pretty close to what I overheard the boss of my local DMV say to her co workers while I was renewing my tags. Sorry to paint with a broad brush, but if you are part of the education system or otherwise employed by the state of il, natural common sense reason seems to fall out one ear while the empty space is being filled with the "where's mine?" juice.

Obviously you are not sorry to make this asinine comment about all educators and state employee's having "where's mine?" because you freely posted it. I am not sure how many educators or state employee's you actually know, but I am guessing little to none. As a state employee, non-democrat, non-administrator, I and the people I work with are not looking for a something for nothing hand out. We show up, do our jobs, then go home. As average state of Illinois residence we are only being asked to be treated fairly at work, which is almost impossible with the political situation in this state. I wish the average citizen knew how hard it is for qualified employee's to get promotions over political bias. But, please feel free to make generalizations about people which you know little to nothing about. Seems on this forum it is perfectly OK to make generalizations about state employee's and how we are ruining this state when we all know this whole mess was created by elected officials on both sides, but everybody on here wants to jump up and down and scream and holler about how the other side make generalizations about us gun owners.

My intent wasn't to offend. I often wonder what the point is of being offended. I'm a middle class, very rural, blue collar white Christian who makes his living with his hands. Plenty of cracks about my type these days and I still sleep all night.

I worked for the state of Il as well as the Federal gubmint. Part of their unions too. My mother worked for the State for 27 years; plenty of our friends as well, so I know a little of what I speak.

The example I gave wasn't to paint the woman as a numbskull, just someone who was immersed in a system for most of her adult life and became washed into a mindset. I told the story as I witnessed it so I'm not sure how repeating a truth upsets you. Illinois/government has had a broken system for multiple generations; you only have to look at neighboring states for a comparison. That is a fact.I don't claim to know them all.

I chose to leave that system for a multitude of reasons; now I work for myself.

I don't have a time clock. I show up and work until the job is done, then I go home.

My pension, my retirement, my bennies, my "safety net" are all what I make them. I don't have a steward telling me how to vote; no one is giving my money to politicians who don't represent me.

The politicians in Illinois have done nothing to help government employees other than create an atmosphere that creates waste and cronyism and a poor image.

Rauner made a statement a few years ago that there were educators in Chicago that were illiterate. Instead of even looking in that direction, the media pushed him into an apology. Apparently that also offended educators.

My broad brush wasn't meant to indict every single employee, but there is obviously a problem with the system, and just getting offended isn't going to fix it.

People used to get government jobs because of the benefits and pension in spite of lower salaries than the private sector. Lower pay but security and longevity. Now the average government job pays better than the average private sector job, has better benefits, and a pension which most private companies have moved away from entirely. You knew the animal you were lying down with when you took the job. What happens when Illinois can no longer pay its bills? All of those unfunded pensions, insurance for the retirees, generous saleries? Few people will feel sorry for the state workers who don't get what they were promised when the road to default will include higher taxes for the people who really keep this state afloat in spite of the government: the average tax payer. I know my high school theater teacher was payed in the $120k's back in the early 90's, where do you think educators' pay is now? Maybe not all of them, but come on?!? It's not serving the public when the public has no choice.
